Are the 99rs covered in the new tax bill?

I can't make heads or tails if the 99rs are covered in this new tax bill that passed. Did the 99rs finally get included in the new compromise tax bill / 13 month unemployment extension bill????

No, the 99'ers are not affected by the bill passed last night.

And probably more importantly there is very little stimulus in this bill. Mostly keeps the status quo - except for the inheritance tax give away that will do nothing except add to the deficit. So the more important question than extending unemployment is will it help create jobs and the answer is probably no. The extension of unemployment may preserve some jobs for awhile but that will continue to diminish as more and more people become 99ers.

The agency continues to monitor the status of legislation in Congress (HR 4853) that would extend the deadline for establishing eligibility in the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program by approximately 13 months. This latest proposal would be retroactive to November, and extends the phase-out date for the program to June 9, 2012.

For customers to continue to receive Extended Benefits (EB), Florida must be in an EB period, which ended on December 4. Action is required by the Florida Legislature and/or the Governor to extend Florida’s EB period.

There is NO 5th tier. Thus, nothing for the 99ers. It is a federal issue not a state issue.

AngelinaCat, I think you and I are in the same boat. I'm on unemployment too, in the final tier, and mine was cut off prematurely a couple of weeks ago. The bill that passed last night DID affect ME because now I'll be eligible for the full number of remaining weeks.

I don't consider myself a 99'er. I define a 99'er as someone who WAS on unemployment and used every tier that was available until eventually using every week of the final tier available to them. Now they are not eligible for any more unemployment checks. The unemployment extension passed last night doesn't give these 99'ers a NEW tier, so they're finished.

Shortly, I WILL be a 99'er (if I don't get hired first).

it will depend on what the unemployment rate is in your state....

i.e. i'm in florida ....it's running 11.9%
calif is close to 12%....
neveda....BAD...over 11% etc.

nationally average...9.8%

..BUT this hasn't pass the house yet for the 99ers.....

so what my husbands vet contact at the unemployment office just told him, it will, from what THEY (that unemployment office) understands...will extend to 99ers IF they are located in a state that has a higher than nationally average unemployment rate.......

but who knows...just put it in back and white so we ALL understand please!!!!!

All I asked for from family members was gift cards to Walmart, so I can just buy groceries and supplies. I don't want any toys, electronics, anything fun, I just simply want to buy supplies and groceries to survive with.

we are just going back to our "old" ways...where we always gave needs as opposed to "wants" for the holidays....

gift cards to the grocery store is what we are doing and shoot....just because i had the stuff in the house i am sending cookies...since nowadays it's almost cheaper to buy them than to bake them...our list stopped from about 20 to 5....only immediately family and one gift per....so if one family has 6 members....one gift card for the entire family.

plus...we are going to my daughters...bringing all the food...that's their gift and me cooking yuck...

tobee, I have been living this cheap way for 10 years now, so this recession is nothing new to me (I have been in a recession this long). The recession has at least opened up some more help for me as society is experiencing it as well. I am looking forward to Christmas and after that I am hoping to find work soon.

We certainly are seeing high views and posts with unemployment threads on this board.

President Signs Extension of Federally Funded Unemployment Compensation Programs, Governor Issues Executive Order

Today President Obama signed into law an extension of the eligibility dates for the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) and Extended Benefits (EB) programs by approximately 13 months. The agency anticipates beginning to pay benefits for both programs next week.

Extended Benefits (EB) - Florida’s EB period ended on December 4, 2010. Since Florida must be in an EB period for eligible Floridians to receive payments, Governor Charlie Crist signed an Executive Order today authorizing Floridians who qualify to receive those benefits. Qualifying individuals will receive the benefits retroactive to December 4 if their benefits lapsed.

The EB program pays up to 20 weeks of additional benefits to individuals who previously exhausted the up-to-79 weeks of regular state and federal EUC benefits. AWI estimates the Governor’s Executive Order will benefit approximately 250,000 long-term unemployed Floridians and result in an additional $650 million in benefit payments. The new law provides an extension of full federal funding for EB through January 7, 2012.

Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) - The new federal law also extends the deadline for establishing eligibility in the federal EUC program by approximately 13 months, retroactive to November 2010, and extends the phase-out date for the program to June 9, 2012. Four tiers of federal EUC benefits remain available to eligible beneficiaries:

* Tier I: Under this new law, unemployed workers currently receiving benefits from their regular state claims have until December 24, 2011 to exhaust their state benefits and establish eligibility for EUC Tier I, which provides up to an additional 20 weeks of benefits.

* Tiers II and III: Unemployed workers currently receiving benefits on EUC Tiers I, II, or III can now qualify for the next level of benefits if their current tier is exhausted by December 31, 2011. EUC Tier II provides up to 14 weeks of benefits and Tier III provides up to 13 weeks of additional benefits.

* Tier IV: Those who exhaust Tier III benefits by December 31, 2011 can establish eligibility for Tier IV benefits, which provides up to 6 additional weeks of benefits.

* Those who will exhaust EUC Tiers I, II, and III between now and the dates provided above will be automatically enrolled in the next level of benefits.

* Those who received a final payment notice for regular, EUC Tier I, II, or III will be automatically enrolled in the next level of EUC and should be able to begin certifying for the additional benefits during their regular claim reporting cycle. Some customers will be able to claim weeks of unemployment as soon as next week.

Customers are encouraged to check their claims online or by calling the agency’s toll-free number (800-204-2418) to determine if they have weeks available to claim.
Important Facts:

o No new tiers of benefits were created.
o The agency will notify potentially eligible customers of both programs by mail with instructions on how to receive benefits"

We will see what happens with me. I lost my FT job in 2007, and have been on UC since. Each time it looks like my benefits are running out, it 'rolls over' into another stage. I do have a PT job that has been very good to me. I would like to at least add a few more hours, but my employer's own budget has been cut...

I just got another unemployment check today and it shows a balance taking me through the middle of April. I lost my job in December 2008 and live in California.

I am very happy, this means I will have a happy Christmas and this should give me the time I need to find a job. I am very optimistic about this.

i'm sure it's because so many on this site have lost their jobs....

i know we filed bk because i got really ill, and then lost my job...we were ok with just one salary, but then another job loss...that was it for us....medical bills in excess of 200k since we used our max for that year....we watched everything we worked for, for 40 years go down the tubes in a blink of an eye.

we never used our charge accounts for luxury items...but we did use them for medical expenses towards the end....never a vacation, or dinner etc...so for us, it was just simply a bad time...no job...no money, can't live..

One still max's out at 99 weeks if you're lucky enough to qualify. Recent local news stories put the number of over 28,000 exhaustee's in Las Vegas alone. Lots of people have left the state. Open congress had an article about how high the 99er's number's will rise in the next year. Hundreds of exhaustee's max out of their unemployment benefits every week in our country. They will be the powerless....
