Will there be any problems if I buy a cheap scooter during my 60 days? It will need to be titled and insured.

Can you define a scooter? Is this like a moped, or a small motorcycle? In FL motorcycles do not have to be insured, but depending on the size it could be wise to do. I would definitely wear a helmet no matter what size. Before your discharge you aren't allowed to go into debt. Depending on the amount (above or below 600) you technically have to have permission to purchase large items. If it is paid off, you could "possibly" turn your case into an asset case and have it removed, but not too likely. Best bet is pass it by the lawyer of course. Again the size and cost would determine importance of the question. 'Hub
P.S. anything above a moped needs a motorcycle endorsement on your DL. Fine is $500 if you do not have this.If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

You can buy a cheap scooter, no problem. The trustee is not cross checking registration records or tracking your banking activity post filing unless you have a lot of red flags in your case.
If you are a Chapter 7 you can buy a scooter, even if you have to go into debt to do it. You don't need the trustee's permission to spend any amount of money or acquire any amount of debt. If you have earnings or exempt cash you are free to use it as you see fit. It's generally considered wise to wait for discharge to do these things, if ever, but there is no legal reason you can't if you are a Chapter 7. If there is a chance that the trustee will challenge your exemption on any of the funds you plan to use you'd want to wait until the trustee abandons them at the least.
Bottom line, if you need transportation, get it. I would advise against going into debt for it, but Chapter 7's don't need the court's permission.
Good luck.Case Closed > 2/08/2010

Thanks! I was going to pay cash for it. The cash was included in my exemption. Anyway, I decided to put a deposit to hold the price since its a really good sale. That way its not titled until I take pssession which I will wait until after discharge.
Hub, it's 110cc's and I have a motorcycle endorsement already. I promise to always wear a helmet. I really think that should be a law.
