What is it with people today...

Is it just me or does it seem like in today's society and economic situation people are just getting more rude and nasty by the minute, thinking they can just say whatever and do whatever they want to anyone, anytime, screw the consequences? Perhaps people feel that's their god given and amendment right but I for one am tired of being "PC", playing to someone else's "feelings" so as not to "offend" them. That's whats wrong with the world today - everyone and everything is required to be silent out of fear of EEO, discrimination, racial profiling, etc. At this point I'm apt to say too damn bad - if you piss me off and are rude to me from the outset, you're going to get it back threefold.

Just yesterday I ran into this very instance with a lab tech after leaving our drs office for our son. Our son has a true phobia regarding needles....even a written file from his doctor that we carry - and this woman just ignored everything, every question and concern we had to ensure certain items were on-hand to make it easier for him - as written in the doctors orders. Six people in the waiting room and all stating the same thing - very rude lab tech from the moment they stepped in the door as well. Call the cops - get your supervisor - do what you have to do, but dont ever get up and move towards me in a threatening manner because that is a mistake, especially with my young son standing beside me. What is wrong with people?! Is simply stating to someone in a professional atmosphere, whose job it is to help the customer and work with people that they're being extremely rude for no reason cause to act like you're going to hit someone now a days? I guess many people do not realize that people do carry weapons legally and will use them to subdue or hold off someone if confronted in a hostile manner and be well within their rights of the law. It's called a concealed weapons permit for a reason - and I'll bet you a million dollars the owners hand can be on it faster than you can come across that counter. Is it really worth your life? Who knows anymore in today's society - one flip of the bird could get you shot (and has).

Been shopping lately? Talk about rude people - and not just the cashiers and managers - but actual consumers. I guess "Customer Service" is a thing of the past these days and people in general are crazy...who knows. Ever see 2 women fist fighting with babies in their carts at Best Buy over the last TV special sale price because they were afraid it was the last one? Yep - I've witnessed that firsthand. Insane madness. Really? All over a TV set that was on sale for $20 less than regular price?

When you call me whatever you feel you have a right to at any moment, I suppose I could lower myself to your standard, making sure when those poisonous words leave your mouth that you're prepared to receive the same in return, and not be shocked when I do or call me a racist. Or... I could do the christian thing, turn the other cheek, letting my morals, ethics, and convictions stand on their own merit and let others venom roll right past me. I have two choices and given lately whats been transpiring - I can conform or I can say Screw it. What type of person would that make me if I returned it to you but worse because of your perverse and inane lack of intelligence?

Hmmm.... tough decision. Two wrongs dont make a right but I for one, am tired of being someone else's punching bag just because they're having a bad day, year, decade. Your lack of moral compass, ethical fortitude, and temperance does not and will not constitute my understanding or compassion.

I fear the worst is yet to come.... what a pity.

Sorry you had such a horrible day yesterday! I agree about what you are seeing these days. I also agree it's gonna get worse before it gets better.

pandora...i'm so sorry about your day....

but i so absolutely agree with you!! what is it...this sense of entitlement to be rude and nasty??? is everyone just all pissed off at the world and want to take it out on each other.

i so know where you're coming from...but it really gets me that someone was like that in front of your son!!!!

do NOT lower your standards....you set you examples for your children and i'm sure they are great and you kids will turn out to be great "humans"...(on a personal note...children DO NOT become human to ME until 23 or so...the boys sometimes it's 25). but they still need your guidance and assurance of how to handle situations like yesterday....since unfortunately it's becoming all more common place.

i must tell you, that last week, i just called a director of a major faculty to give them a "heads" up on how terrible, and rude some of their employee had been during a very difficult time for us. i was subdued...(YES I WAS!!)....professional and direct and told them i expect a follow up call and an apology asap....i got her asst...and didn't expect a call back.

but, to our surprised she did call back and just as disgusted as we were...or pretended pretty well...

so i think you should report this lab tech person...too many GOOD people are looking for a job! that really want one and LIKE what they do!

sorry about for your terrible day..

        thanks Keepin and Tobee.

Tobee - regarding the incident yesterday I already have called, several times in fact, its not the first time the employees of this lab have been this way, nor will it be the last I'm sure. Know what I'm told when I call and talk to the CEO's office? Nothing. They (whoever the hell "they" are) say their employees would never do such a thing, they're "trained in CSR". I didnt even mention the part about being called a "white *itch" in front of my child and a roomful of people And if I had said something similar in return to this woman regarding her race...then what? Pathetic. Goes for online as well - I guess people think that because they sit behind the veil of a computer screen its okay to say whatever they want to someone, but when its thrown back at them in the same manner - its not okay. Guess that old adage of class is bred not born applies.

You're right on one count - my children are wonderful well rounded individuals who are strong in their morals and ethics. Why? Because thats how they were raised and brought up. However......... just once I'd love to take the low road , just for the satisfaction of turning it around to see how the other person likes it and to show my kids that they do not have to tolerate or take any crap from anyone because its the "right thing to do".

Yeah - think I'm done with being nice at this point. No wonder people pack up and leave society on every level. Human beings can be nasty individuals.

At any rate - that's my vent..take it for what it is.

          i take from you anytime..

i know what you mean...i would also like to take that "low" road once in awhile myself. i mean i try to think bad things but feel like i know it will in fact, come back to those 10 fold and it's not up to me....although i'd LOVE to.

you are the high road, that's why you have such a difficult time dealing with these situations....and i don't care that you are outspoken...to me personally it's my favorite part of you...that is, except your chickens...

LOL @ u tobee... you're sweet - but really I'm terribly mean, nasty and rude *snickering* Didnt you see me fly over your house last night on my Nimbus 2000?

You've got that right though - I am outspoken - oh well, such is me. Thats like one of my girlfriends asking me "does this make my butt look big?" yet when I answer " Uh.. yeah....but its not because of the outfit...its because you have a big butt to begin with and know that!" Dont get upset because I told the truth... Gaw... dont ask me if you dont want the truth... I wont lie to make it "softer" on you. I'd expect the same in return if I asked the same question. :P

            Too funny...

actually....you should write short stories..only short because i know you have a bunch of get tells to be told and i'm sure there'd be a kick or two in each of them!!

you're so funny..you remind me of the my neighbor when i bring her dinner when i know i have always cooked enough and she's working two jobs, husband is working 3, two small babies....and i'll bring over a plate or two for them a few times a week and she'll call me and say...ok...i'm now going to cretique the dinner???

what??? FREE dinner and you're needing to cretique it??? she YEAP i do...it's who i am and you love me anyway...which i do....LOL!! as she proceeds to tell me my chili was a bit on the sweet side because i use cumin......

oh yeah... halo's abound! Hey...do I take that as an insult or..?? (me being like your neighbor...) Hmmm... LMAO!

Your neighbor did that? OMG...I'd have probably smiled sweetly and proceeded to spit in the chili while standing there then handed it to her. (kidding.....well..then again... ) See...thats what I mean..your example above proves my point. People these days just have that sense of entitlement to do or say whatever they want regardless of anything else. Makes me want to just *****slap some people sometimes - wouldnt that be a hoot? Just walk up to someone and slap the crap outta them for being so damn stupid and rude?

Yes.. I'm evil.... as Spike said to Buffy "Baby I'm a bad bad man..." but in my case..... woman. (if you dont know who Spike is... then this will make no sense to you whatsoever) LOL

Sometimes when I meet a rude person I just want to say - be thankful you have a job! There are actualy times when I am in line at the grocery store and there is one person who looks like she hates her job and I move to another line - don't care how long I've been waiting.

For the most part, people here in MN are really nice, but there are definetely times I'd like to say - Hey, we're all human beings here, all of us just trying to get by.

                      discouraged -

glad to know its not just me that will change lines when I get someone like you posted. Honestly, I dont know of anyone that loves their job all the time every day but as you said, in today's economic times, be thankful the job is yours as so many others are struggling to find one. For every person that hates their job and it reflects openly to the public, I'm certain there are at least 10 others that would jump at the opportunity to have it in their stead and provide better customer service.

Worst are the ones that get mad for having to bag groceries and throw the items in. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to my groceries - all frozen together, all fridge together, canned goods, boxed items etc... and bread is always last I've had cashiers throw the eggs and bread into a bottom bag -then crush it with canned goods. I've made them take them out and walk back to get me entirely new items. Dont care if they were upset to do so - I spent the time selecting my items and placing them in an orderly fashion on the conveyor, the least they could do is take the time to bag them. Any more I just bag my own its become that bad.

                        Very good thread all comments.

Here is another take in the other direction. I had to drive to Atlanta one time to get some legal documents regarding my god-daughter (we rescued her from no place to go when released from prison. She is a hard working model citizen now.)

Anyway I expected the worst. Atlanta 99% Black and me an old white Honkey. So my experience entailed going to about ten places for this, that and the other including five year old police report originals. At every office, I was treated with the finest service and the most respect I have ever seen. My most important stop was for a record and the lady stated that I could come back "tomorrow" as the record is in storage. I told her It was very important to get it as I had to leave back to FL as soon as possible. She said to me, and with a smile, sit down in our snack room, I'll see what I can do. Five minutes later she came to me from her office and said if I could wait I'll have the records in an hour. She said it with a smile.

Fortunately and unfortunately, the "exceptional" for the good and the bad, show out. We remember both. But really, most people are "like us" quiet and just nice people. Not wishing to harm or be harmed.

It is unfortunate that people who make such a poor racial remark thought so little OF HERSELF to do that. Here is what I do: I smile the biggest smile, then tell that person that God loves you, anyway." Then I turn from them and rhetorically shake the dust from my feet.

The best and most effective retort to an attack is "Kill them with kindness". You then do nothing wrong, yet it leaves the adversary remembering their error. It works. At least for me.

On another hand, if physically threatened, stand your ground, do not turn away but smile. It confuses the attacker and actually they will fear what they don't understand.

An example, I pulled out with plenty of time and space in front of a rock truck (known for their crazy driving). The guy crammed up to my bumper with full air horns blowing and got out coming at my door. I got out and put my arms down by my sides, fists clenched and the biggest smile ever. He stopped, gave me the finger, turned and got back into the truck. A display of his intelligent quotient did not harm me and left him the lessor of the person. 'Hub

OMG I almost choked on my toast reading the first part quoted! God 'Hub - you tryin to kill me over here?! LOL

You mean that thing my Dad told me.... to act like a crazy person if threatened..actually works? HA HA HA I will have to give it a go sometime soon..very soon!

2 thumbs up for your god-daughter and my personal thanks to you and the Mrs. for believing in giving people 2nd chances. Awesome.

Man do I hate when people ride my cars backside when I'm driving - and truckers are the WORST! I've been known to go down to a rolling speed when someone rides my bumper - the entire time they're doing as you stated above, flashing lights, blowing horns, flipping me off... and I just smile sweetly and wave the whole time! Talk about pissing someone off...wave at them and smile - or even laugh for that matter - Holy Mother of God do people get irate when you do that! ROFL! Hubby tells me one day I'm gonna get shot at for doing it.
