Quit job to work for a Client?

Does anyone know if going to work for a client of your employer would be a bad idea? Not that I got a job offer or anything but a recruiter said I would be perfect for the position. That company happens to be one of our clients. I was advised by coworkers that it would be a bad idea to pursue the job. It pays 30% more and double the vacation time (and many other benefits). I signed a non-compete but I thought it pertained to competitors??

I did this exact thing, what i did was let the client know i was interested, then they took the initiative to see if it would be legal based on there contract with your current company.

it took about 5 weeks for them to hash everything out but i ended with a 20k raise and better benefits at the new company.

the nice thing about doing this is they have already "evaluated" your knowledge and performance and so the rest should really be just formalities.

I've only really worked with them once so they'd have to probably evaluate me like everyone else. I didn't deal with management. The benefits would have been awesome along with pay but I'm afraid of what might happen if I brought it up to my boss. I'd also rather not job hop at the moment. Good to know that it may not be a problem.

Well legally it should not be a problem but as you said your personal equation with your boss is hindering you from taking this step. But i think one should not be too emotional about the job because remember once company goes into bad times then it will not hesitate from firing you.
