The HD quality and internet speed/reliability of the Comcast in my area isn't bad. But the price of having Comcast is absurd. It seems like I keep getting notices that prices will increase every month. lolThe information provided is not, and should not be considered legal advice. I agree, I have had comcast, dish network, and directtv. DISH WAS OK 89.99 for the first year with 2 dvrs and every channel. The issue is like any dish weather messes with the signal. When do we want to watch tv WHEN IT IS RAINING. Direct sucked channels sucked, service sucked. We ordered 2 dvrs and a high def box. When they hooked it up we ended up with 2 dvrs and a standrad box. When we called they said we could have 2 dvrs and a normal box or a dvr a high def dvr and a normal box, but not three dvr type boxs. ok well bring us our HD box, the issue was since they had installed it they wanted 400 bucks for a new dish and hook up for the HD.
Dad had it all pulled out and our money refunded.
Right now we use comcast and our bill is like 240 bucks, but that is every channel but one of the odd ball premium channels, 2 dvrs and one high def dvr, cable internet at the highest speed and phone. The 240 is after fees.Originally posted by HHM View PostThe new xfinity thing that comcast is doing isn't bad, but once all the promotional rates expire from satellite and the cost of adding internet on top of satellite, the difference isn't enough to make me switch.

I'm getting rid of DISH, can't get a decent signal and they want me to pay them to come fix their problem. Then when I ask to speak to a supervisor, they hang up on me. I'm more than happy to pay the cancellation fee to get them out of my life.
At any rate if you sign up for DIRECTTV right now through Costco, you get a $180 cash card to use at Costco. Plus if you have a friend with DIRECTTV you can give them their account # and you both get $10 off a month for 10 months.
I ordered DIRECTTV for 3 hd tvs, that includes their whole-house dvr and the total for the first 12 months is around $75 a month. That's for their next highest package and no premium channels. No installation fees but I do have to pay for one of the hd receivers, $99.00. Comcast was more than triple that, plus I would need a dvr for each TV. I liked Comcast when I had them, but they just cost way too much.Case Closed > 2/08/2010

Wow, conditions changed. My beef with a satellite company that I posted about in this thread just changed. I googled "problems" and read a blog where one person used the threat of arbitration to have his early termination fees credited. To me it seem like a lot of hoops to jump through, so I settled on filing a complaint with the BBB.
Within three weeks I had a reply in which the satellite company credited my early termination fee ($266.) and instructed their collection agency to stop hassling me and to also remove any derogatory report on my credit report. Can't believe the turn around in this company's customer service since Feb 2010. They also invited me back!!!

OK - I'm not going to complain about my SLOWWWW 9.95 a month dial-up ever again. And I quit the tv when it went national and quit working. HMMM - the library sees a lot of me and the stereo works great. Miss the evening news, but there is the newspaper. This bankruptcy has really taught me how to be frugal!

WhatMoney -I live in a city. My tv is an older model that did not use a remote so the converter with remote didn't/doesn't work. I could be technically chqllenged tho - lol.
I was going to get one that would work with it but actually find it refreshing not to have a tv. Didn't use it much, except for the news. I may get one again someday but not until I find a job. Food/shelter comes first.

Any TV built since 1950 should work just fine, even if it is a B&W TV.
The converter boxes only cost $10 after the $40 coupon card the government provided to any household for free. I bought four Zenith digital converter boxes for $40 total. Two are still new and sealed in the box. Many like myself bought extra boxes and are now putting them on eBay for about $10 plus shipping. So if you ever decide you want digital TV (and multiple channels for each station, perfect pictures, etc.) it won't cost you much for free OTA digital quality TV, a $20 onetime expense for the converter, at the most.“When fascism comes to America, it’ll be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross” — Sinclair Lewis
