GE bans smoking on all properties!!!

    It's about time.

Now if Starbucks bans smoking on they're properties I'll be very happy.

I find it unbelievable that non-smokers cannot sit outside in peace at a Starbucks without breathing the smoke from the person next to them.

Also, why do smokers throw their butts on the ground. It is called littering by the way. There's a spot outside of Best?buy near my house where the smokers go and it is littered with cigarette buds left by all the white trash. How about some respect to the non smokers and the smokers who actually throw their buds where they belong.

I don't give a crap if you smoke just keep it away from me!!!!!

Generally because there isn't an ash tray or canister anywhere (because the property owners don't want people smoking).

WOW...And that's an excuse to litter. Next time I finish my pizza and there's no trash can around I'll just throw my pizza box on the ground.

I doubt smokers in general are any more rude than non-smokers in general. The rotten stench of smoked cigarette butts and the fact that smokers are now herded into small smoking areas magnifies the rudeness of those who can't clean up after themselves. Not to mention, if it's a coffee shop most of them are liberals!
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

No, it's not an excuse for littering, but it is the reason.

I hate to see the litter too.. And people driving with a crack in their window so they can let the smoke out and then toss the butt on the street make me unhappy too. They have an ashtray in the car but will not use it. I saw a car's 'back seat catch on fire once over a tossed butt. I did smoke for a short time, glad I don't anymore but I do understand it is your right to do it. But please don't trash the world doing it, and please don't smoke inside of buildings and by doors and windows. There are many people who can not go out because of allergies or lung problems because of smoke.. So, they lose their rights completely over smoke. It really isn't hard to just step outside away from the door, then squish your cigarette out and then toss it in a good safe trash area. It would be so nice...

At one point, during a recent drought with brush fires popping up everywhere, Florida warned that anyone disposing of a cigarette by tossing it out their car window, would be subject to a fine of $1,000 plus jail time (up to one year). It's actually a misdemeanor in Florida.

wow, more whining about cigarette smokers and their littering. has anyone walked about a 100 yards down the side of any major road? sure you will find a handfull of cigarette butts, but you will also find numerous beer bottles and cans, fast food wrappers from the fat slobs that roll out of Mc d,s and taco bell, nobody says anything about them, how about giving cigarette smokers a break, it seems to be all about the non smokers rights, a drunk driver can mess up your day a whole lot more than a little smoke yet no one complains about a drunk throwing beer cans out his car window. . if you feel threatened by the smoke why dont YOU move away from it. it seems everyone has mass hysteria about a little smoke, the trouble is no one can see through the smoke and see some of the other more serious problems... by the way i do NOT smoke,

It must suck to live in one of the states without can and bottle deposit laws. Only 18% of adults still smoke in my state - I live in a smoking free complex - smoking anywhere withing 20 feet of a building or within your own home can get you evicted. The quality of living and residents here has increased noticeably since the smokers were banned a couple years ago. We never get police calls or evictions anymore. The non-smokers save enough income to afford their rent.

Don't like roadsides littered with beer cans? Move to one of these states. Note not a single red state among them. Smoking at Starbucks? doesn't happen here - liberals in our state are seldom smokers.

                  States with Bottle Bills
                  California
                  Connecticut
                  Delaware
                  Hawaii
                  Iowa
                  Maine
                  Massachusetts
                  Michigan
                  New York
                  Oregon
                  Vermont

I want a bottle deposit on wine bottles - that's my only complaint - but we have glass recycling bins everywhere, and our citizens use them.

I smoke on occasion (maybe once a week, if I'm around a smoker), but I'm always near a dispenser. I'll tell a short story: At the college I attend, they passed a smoking ban and removed the canisters. Moving class to class, I'd still spot them smoking, but they just tossed their cigs on the ground. It comes with the territory when you try to ban smoking. Don't mean it's right to litter, but you can't stop them without causing a scene, and the reaction is "I don't have anywhere to put it out".

I've been totally smoke-free for 6 years. Once in a blue moon, particularly when I'm REALLY stressed, I crave a cigarette. When that happens, I think of how much cigarettes have gone up since 2004 and that alone makes me shake my head and look for a piece of sugarless gum!

The way my budget is mapped out, there's simply no room for cigarettes. I'd have to stop contributing to my savings and/or retirement account. Can't afford them!

It's been a wild ride, hasn't it! Probably costs the tobacco companies 20 cents a pack, but the taxes have pushed most of them leaps and bounds beyond $5 each!

Let me repeat, that the problem with cigarette "trash" in Florida is one that has REAL consequences. We banned it because, contrary to popular belief, cigarettes tossed from cars along the highways, are responsible for the a good number of our forest fires. That it's criminal, I'm glad.

Not all fires are caused by cigarettes and most are actually caused by lightning strikes. However, one is nature, the other is a careless man.

I'm anti litter all the way around. I'm especially anti smoking where smokers toss ashes and both lit and unlit cigarettes out car windows while driving on our highway in Florida.

                          I'm anti-fire.

Get's my goat when I see someone throwing their butt out their car window. Don't you have an ashtray in that car? I have come very close when stopped at a light and see someone do that to get out of my car, pick it up and throw it back in their car.

i now live in California and know they have a recycling plan, but dont know of many drunk drivers that really care about recycling when they are 3 sheets to the wind and driving down a freeway. the homeless people you refer to as smokers that are a problem for police and cant afford their rent because they smoke must be the ones picking up all the bottles and cans. thats really a ridiculous statement you made. you are saying because someone smokes they cant afford their rent and cause problems for police???? i have to laugh when you say only 18% smoke in your state, also California says smoking is down. they base this on cigarette tax revenue.....did anyone ever stop to think that smokers are wising up and buying cigarettes online from indian casinos that charge NO state tax??? i have a friend that buys 8 cartons a month from a casino in New York, pays NO cigarette tax to New York OR California. so the states think consumption is down and the high taxes are working. but they are losing so much revenue from lost cigarette tax, it is helping the budget crisis here in California. way to go. now they want another tax on cigarettes. keep up the good work legislators. send more people online to the casinos. OH i forgot to mention the used pampers strewn along with the fat food wrappers..you dont really care about people littering..just smokers that litter..
