    debit card for car rental?

anyone had any problems using a Debit card or pre paid debit card for a car rental??

    #2
The last time I used a debit card for a car rental they put a hold on a portion of money to cover the car rental and a little extra. I think the hold amount varies by car rental company. I would call the one you are looking at to find out for sure what thier policy is.

Last time I used my debit card for a car rental, they put a $350 hold on the card....that was in 2002.

I just rented a car with my debit card last month. They put a $300 hold on the card until I returned the car and the $300 was released to me.

For me they ran a credit check when i used a debit card. I thought oh crap but it came back fine and showed as an inquiry on my credit report.

Not with budget but I have to plan to have $400 held until the end of the period.

I rented with Enterprise once with a debit card. They put a hold on it but I can't remember how much.

I used a debit card to rent a car at BWI a few months ago...I think it used Budget and they placed a $500 hold. lmao...luckily I always keep a few grand in my checking account at all times, or I would've been screwed.

so. it sounds like they accept them as easily as credit card in most cases..and they withhold about the same.. i used a credit card with dollar rental and they withheld 400.. so it seems debit cards will work just fine..thanks all for the input.. i plan on dumping the credit cards soon and will be using nothing but debit cards from now on.....and my major concern was car rentals...

I recently rented with Alamo in Orlando and no hold was placed on my debit card ...just the amount of the rental upon its return.

                      Hi,
I need suggestion related to debit card.
I want to purchase an item on the net. I have a debit card. but they take only credit cards. can I use d.card as c.card. It does not have 3 digit number on its back. Any idea or suggestion?

We use our debit card--which is plainly labeled on the front as such--as a credit card. We use it that way 98% of the time. I don't know why yours would not have the code on the back. Ours carries the Visa logo BTW.
