As some of you may know some (but not all) of my financial troubles were caused/made worse by my ex-husband. Well....here's an update.
I'm filing paperwork for Innocent Spouse Relief with the IRS that will eliminate most of the debt that wasn't wiped out by the BK and needed my ex's current address. The only address I have is an apartment he may/may not still live in across town. Anyway I anonymously called his job to see if they could help me track him down and he doesn't work there anymore. I don't know if he quit or they fired him, but I do know that the creditors that expected payment for his debts from me before my BK were focing him to pay up because they "ahem...found out" where he worked. I didn't feel any guilt at all about digging myself out of this financial pit because my ex assumed he would walk away and leave me holding the bag. Anyway, since I no longer know where he works or lives I just listed the best address I have on the paperwork and hope he doesn't respond because that can only help my case if he doesn't.
Well last night at about 8:30pm I had a knock on the door. I opened the door to a scrawny little tatooed guy that wanted to know where my ex's car was. Turns out it was a REPO man (with an inch thick clipboard filled with names/addresses/phone numbers). I made it completely clear that he didn't live there anymore and I didn't have a clue where he was. The guy left me his card and told me to let him know if I hear from him. Trust me I told him I would do just that. The card shows where my ex owes about $1800 on a used Acura. Apparently he stopped paying so long ago that the repo guy is after him and he tried my ex's apartment and couldn't find it there.
This is the kind of unscrupulous person I've had to deal with all of those years. I would feel sympathy for him if he was in a situation where he was forced to give up his car or home because he couldn't afford it, but I know for a fact that he went out and bought a luxury car and is intentionally skipping out on and hiding from creditors. His credit was shot all during our marriage and I'm almost positive that BK would help him out of this mess, but he's too proud to file and would rather live like a gypsy for the rest of his life.
I thank God everyday he's out of my life and I'm never surpised when someone like the repo guy is tracking him because that's just the kind of person he is.
Just thought I'd share.
