Chapter 11 files for Chapter 11; Gainesville store closing

ATLANTA - The bookstore company that once used the slogan "prices so low, you'd think we were going bankrupt" has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing its Gainesville store, among others.
Chapter 11 Bookstores says on its Web site that the filing is "an effort to better serve its customers and strengthen its overall business operations."
The 15-year-old company says it reorganizational plan focuses the Company's resources on six metro Atlanta stores and that as part of the plan the Gainesville store and six others will be closed.
Of the other stores that are closing, five are are in metro Atlanta and the sixth is in Athens.
Chapter 11 will keep its Peachtree Battle, Ansley Mall, Sandy Springs, Emory, Northlake/Briarcliff and Highland Plaza (Marietta) stores open. The online site www.chapter11books.com and business-to-business endeavors remain unchanged, according to the company's Web sites.
"We are confident that a streamlined Chapter 11 is better positioned for additional future success in today's highly competitive marketplace," said Chapter 11's President Perry Tanner, who stated that a secured financial lender remains committed to funding the ongoing enterprise. "This move ensures the Company's positive cash flow as we enter the holiday season."
Locations closing by month's end include Snellville, Conyers, West Paces Ferry, Roswell, Gainesville, Norcross and Athens.
