People who have dogs that bite - A pattern?

My neighbor has had 4 dogs and two of them they raised, bite people. The one dog has bitten my hand twice but did not draw blood. I told her that her dog bites people and she laughed about it, telling me that she thinks it is funny that her dogs bite people and it is funny that her dog bit me. The one dog bit another neighbors leg and that person filed a complaint and ended up with thousands of dollars in medical bills and the police did in fact take that dog away from her fro awhile. My neighbor thought that was funny too. My neighbor tells me that her dog bites people in the immediate family as well & that she has also been bitten by her own dogs. She had every excuse in the book that this was acceptable behavior and that it is my fault her dog bites me and then laughs about it. I told her if I ever need medical attention from her dog biting me I will sue them for the bills and she took pride in the fact that her dogs bite and that she always gets away with it. I was over for one Thanksgiving and all the dogs were helping themselves to turkey and whatever they wanted off the counter and table. The big one pulled the turkey right off my plate while I was eating. She thought it was cute. I say- It was rude and disgusting. If i wont tolerate humans behaving like this, I certainly am not tolerating dogs doing it. I no longer go inside of that house, but have remained neighborly from a distance.

After I realized she viewed her dogs biting people as something funny & something that she gets away with (of course drunk all the time saying this crap), I printed out the Law on the one bite rule here and gave her 20 pages to read and I told her that if her dog ever bites me again, I will kick all of its teeth down its throat. She did not like that. Too bad! She also adopted a 5 year old pitbull who is completely trained from a previous owner and I play and hug that pitbull all the time out in the yard. This confirms to me that my neighbor does not have a clue on how to raise dogs, but will do ok with a dog that someone else took the time to teach and raise.

One of the girls I work with is constantly telling me stories about her huge lab biting people and biting her (the owner) and biting other people in the family, drawing blood quite often, also running and using all of its weight to knock people down etc. etc. etc.... This dog is huge. She brought her dog to the store one day to show me, because I bring my dogs to work sometimes. I could tell that dog could bite me with no problem, so I only petted it once and told her I was afraid it would bite me. Fortunately, this woman I work with is in agreement that she does have a problem with her dog biting but she does not know how to curb it. I thought to myself, Lay off the pot for awhile and knock some sense into your dog instead of being lazy about it.

My cousin brought up something about this and noted that people who party all the time have dogs that have not been taught anything or trained properly on how to behave around others because the owners are always intoxicated and have neglected teaching the dogs any manners and who the boss really is, so the dog does as they please. I dont blame the dogs, I blame the pathetic onwers. I began to wonder if this was true because in both of the cases I mentioned here of biting dogs, they are always drunk, high on pot, fried on LSD and the one owner (my neighbor) is a convicted felon for angel dust.

and so I wonder, how true it is and how often it is true and if there is a pattern that those who party 24/7 have dogs they raised that bite and harm people, including biting the owners and people in the family due to neglect.

All of my dogs are from shelters and one of them attempted to bite the daughter of a friend of mine. I think I went into shock from the fear of my dog biting a child and I immediatley kicked her away from the child. From that day forward she (the dog) learned that biting people who are no threat is wrong. I learned to spot when she was going into a biting mode and stopped it. She did in the beginning still try to bite my other dogs, but I worked with her and she has not bit them for 5 years now. She is the oldest and she growls at my other 2 dogs occasionally so I do allow her to have the pecking order in the pack as that is normal. She has come a long way from the neglected home she came from & has turned into a beautiful loving mix breed. So, I know it possible to correct, if these people would take the time and show the dogs the love and discipline they need, instead of neglecting it and staying stoned daily.

Your last sentence sums it up perfectly except the order must be discipline then love. Any dog can be trained to act obediently but it starts with the owner assuming the role of pack leader.

Way too many people have dogs who have never understood the psychology of dogs. Dogs need a pack leader. Without one there is chaos and the dog is constantly confused.

No dog is responsible when it bites a person. The owner is the responsible party, our should I sai IRRESPONSIBLE party.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

I'd like to add that a lot of kids are in need of pack leaders, too.

Anyone that thinks a dog bite is funny should be......... (insert appropriate statement here)

All I know is that I would be the last thing a dog would ever bite. Literally.

should have their teeth pulled out slowly, one every other week and take up to 2 weeks to get each tooth out with pliers, chisel, files and hammer and no novacaine. (insert appropriate statement here)

              just kidding of course

Then they might not find their dogs who bite people as funny. I would hate to see anyone lose their dog but that is a valid option.
