With all the calls I've gotten in the last 6 months this is the one that scared me

It was from Allied something or other ( Advanta cc). I opened up the card and made about 3 payments. Bal at the time was $500.00. One of the smallest of all my 11 cards.
This guy on my voicemail said something about doing an asset search and something else I cant remember and that unless I did this on purpose, it would be to my advantage to call him asap. That they would be filing a lawsuit at anytime..
Should I worry about this? Or is this typical scare tactics?
    Thanks

    It is nothing.

I owe Advanta over 60k. Probably 100k by now. They used to call here. They quit about a year and a half ago. I have not even heard from any junk buyers on this account in a year or so.

These people are pigs and will say anything. I used to receive the most bizarre, and seeimingly calculated phone messages from this one, though, when they did call.

Also, Advanta itself is on the ropes and likely will be BK and gone in a couple more months or so. They recently stopped ALL credit card lending, even for existing customers after their default rate went higher than 20%.

Not sure how this will affect us, if it happens. Probably their collections will be sold off one last time by the BK trustee and tossed out for a last-gasp collection effort.

Any case, no need to take that call any more seriously than any other call. Sure, they COULD sue you, but that is true of all of the creditors. Eventually someone probably will.

They are just trying to get you upset.
I had a couple just before I filed pull this mainly by mail.
They say they will be searching for assets, employment so that they can attach wages and such.
Just scare tactics for the most part.

Hey ready, that sounds a lot like those debt collectors that were in the Dateline special (at least I think it was Dateline). They had a recording of a collector pretending to be with the police dept. and telling the poor guy that they were sending a car over to pick him up if he didn't take care of his account right now.

These people are low life scum who will say anything to try to scare you into giving them some money. They are lying. How do you know? Because their lips are moving! They probably bought this debt for $5.00, so anything they get from you is gravy.

          Don't let them scare you!

          Here, I found the thread:

You know, we surrendered our home and got a rental before we filed.
In the process we relocated to another town.
Without thinking about it our phone number changed because it had to.
The good news was they could not call us!
I think if I were going through the calls that some do I would just change the number!

He is trained to frighten you and make you pay something anything, that's his job. (the callers)

              Ignore him.

If your about ready to file bankruptcy there is no point in paying anything especially since given the circumstances you can't afford to.

Also keep in mind threatening to sue you is against the law unless they actually intend to do it, but I bet they keep badgering you for another few months before they have any intention of filing.
