    Almost got ripped off today

This morning I got a call from 1800service (caller ID). I answered it. It was a recorded message from blockbuster saying I owe them $4.95. it then goes on to say if I would like to pay by cc press 1, checking account press 2. I pressed 2, I was then told to enter my routing number. I started thinking this is weird, they already have my billing info, why do I have to enter it, then I was thinking that I couldn't owe them any money I just rented a video game the other day that is not due back yet and they never mentioned a past due amount. so I hung up before I entered my info. I called blockbuster to find out why I owe them $4.95 and I was told that I didn't, I told them about the call and they said they NEVER ask for cc or checking information on the phone. WOW I almost gave someone who was not blockbuster my info.

No legitimate bank or company will call you, email you, (or leave a message) asking for your account information, checking account number, password to an account, SS#, etc., etc. That is old news pounded into everyone everyday. Still, some people fall for it and seniors are usually mainly targeted for fraud although much is random hoping someone will fall for the scam.

Glad you caught it mate, you might could report the call to the local authorities. While they might not be able to help a lot they could help notify the community your in of the scam and possibly get more information during investigation.
