    How boring is your job?

I thought this would be a good thread.

    How boring is your job?

Right now, my job is pretty boring. I have been working for the same employer for the past nine years working a 12 hour night shift. My schedule is Wednesday through Friday and every other Saturday.

I have been in the same area since day 1 and pretty much know everything there is to know.

Since the economy took a dive, things have been pretty dead around here and not having anything to do can make a 12 hour shift feel like an eternity.

Thank God for the Internet, but even then, you can only do so much online.

They actually took away a lot of our Internet privileges because people have abused it by looking at porn, gambling, playing games, ect...

For those of us who have limited internet access, I actually found a way around it back in December. I bought myself a thumb drive and installed Mozilla's portable browser on it. All I have to do is install the thumb drive, open the Mozilla folder and click on the browser and boom, instant internet access.

Anyone else have a boring job like me???

Boring jobs are no fun. I've had that experience a few times and you can practically hear the clock ticking! I remember when I interned at a newspaper while in college (long before Al Gore invented the internet, LOL), they gave me little to do and they caught me looking at the help wanted ads while at work. Not the smartest move on my part, but, hey, I was 19!

You just made me appreciate my current "job" even more. I'm technically a SAHM right now, also a "domestic engineer" to my home and it's frustrating, tiring and the pay is, well, nonexistent but hey, I am hardly ever, rarely bored!

If you do not like your career, you are wasting that portion of your life. I loved my career job. 34 years of retirement in my opinion. In the end, the company was taken over by AT&T and our whole section got the axe. So much for loyalty. I still miss the old company and worked far beyond what they paid me, and was pleased to do it.

It is unfortunate that you don't like your job, but you have been there nine years. Why? Now days, it is fortunate just to have one. Hold onto what you have.

I was brought up that even if you are a street sweeper, be the best street sweeper. There is pride in doing the job well, and no matter how trivial it may be, it is necessary to society or it would not exist. Also, be careful about the thumb nail workaround. It can be detected if you have a good IT person. 'Hub

Before becoming disabled at the age of 50, I was an Accountant. I worked in the Private and Public Sector. My son, who really excelled in Math, once told me he would never be an Accountant as he said it was Boring.

So he got a degree in Physics. Became a minister and owns his own remodeling business.

I miss interaction with the people, whether it was co-workers or clients. It gets lonely sitting at home until hubby gets home. He is an OTR Truck Driver and is usually home on Fri. pm - Sun am.

O, I would definitly give SSD my measly check every month just to be able to work part-time. And I thought about doing that. But like Hubby said, I'm afraid to drive because of the accident & with all my physical disabilities, I wouldn't be able to sit over 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

The internet is my Career now LOL! I met my husband on a Chronic Pain Support Group. When I was having 1 of the 7 surgeries, a lady from Alabama whom I met on a Back Pain Support group drove from ALto AR & spent a week with me after I got out of the hospital. I belong to several of those type websites and we check up on each other not only thru the internet, but we also keep in touch by telephone.

Up until this year, I was a Pro member of Pogo, an internet site with all different kinds of games. Membership went up to $39.99 (I think) a year &I decided with BK coming up, that was an expense I could go without.

My job isn't boring at all. I am a rural sub with the post office. I only get to work 1 day a week and then when someone goes on vacation. I enjoy it since it is part mental, keeping track of names, numbers and streets, and the rest is physical. I meet new people, enjoy the nice weather and best of all when I am done I get to go home and get paid my 8 hours even if I am done in 6 or 7! Just have to put in my time until a route comes open.

My husband on the other hand get paid to bottle thousands of gallons of milk every night he works a 10 hour shift. Usually takes less than the 10 hours then he gets to find something to do to pass the time. (usually bottle day shifts milk)

I do running repair on transit trains, electronic not mechanical. Love it. Day goes VERY fast, making schedule etc... I play with trains, every little boy's dream, it is actually fun. 27 years total in Public Transit. I hope to do another 8 minimum.

I manage hotels. I meet new people every single day. Imagine the wild stories I can tell. Maybe I should write a book.

The biggest thing I hate about my job is working nights. Granted, when I was single, it was great, but now that I am married and have 2 children, it stinks.

A lot of people can flip-flop there schedule on there days off. Me, I have a very hard time doing it.

An example would be right now as I am typing this... On Friday morning, I got home from a 12 hour shift and went to sleep. About an hour later, I had to bring my wife to the ER because she was having complications with her diabetes. By the time we got home, it was time for me to go to work. I called my boss and said I wasn't going in because not after sleeping for 24 hours, I was a zombie and making it another 12 hours wasn't going to happen.

I slept all of Friday night and was up at 7:00 AM Saturday. I tried taking a nap Saturday afternoon, but since I have a hard time sleeping as it is, I couldn't fall a sleep.

The only thing keeping me at this job is the money and lack of employment elsewhere. As soon as my 341 meeting is over with, I am going to apply elsewhere and I already have an employer in mind. I actually applied there last October, but did not get the job because I failed the pre-employment test by 2 questions. Stupid timed tests!!!!

If the job is boring (and mine easily could be) try to create projects you can work on. Something you know more about than someone else at work, something that would improve productivity or reduce expense for the department. A better mouse trap. Anything that would benefit the company/department. Use the downtime for that pet project. You'll get noticed and when a better job/promotion becomes available you'll be at the top of the list. I work with people who are only there to keep their seat warm for 8 hours and watch the clock (and it's obvious to everyone including my boss). I create pet projects and work them through and it does get noticed. This is how I plan to survive the next round of layoffs, and I feel better about my job as a result. Otherwise it's a drag to get out of bed in the morning, you know?

my job is extremely boring. i work in a call center and even though we do not have to be on a verbatim script every call is basically the same, and we are on a dialer. so all day long i am repeating myself over and over and over for 8 hours and i feel like a monkey, theres no variance what so ever. sometimes i leave early, i get up out of my seat to walk around and they just keep making all these new silly rules to make it worse. i applied for 4 new positions in the company so we will see what happens.
