Don,t get me wrong...folks had a lot of negative things to say about Bush. I remember all too well. I also remember a lot of negative things Bush has done. Now that you have an african american president, all the KKK members are coming out of the wood work and having their say. I really don't blame them given the popularity of the man, but if they can have theirs, I can have mine. I think folks should be ashamed of themselves for making some of these negative comments about what the President is doing when its clear that not another soul has positive suggestions. That was clear when each of the Presidents policies were passed yet, who do you think passed those policies...surely not these negative commenting people on this forum.

Obama's skin tone or the fact his father was an African national has nothing to do with my contempt for him. He's a fraud. He's already broken multiple campaign promises, he'll not reach across the aisle until 2010 when the GOP regains control of Congress, his socialist plans for our country are 100% contrary to the American Ideal and his "blame America first" attitude and disgraceful performances in Europe disgust me. Bowing before the King of Saud is dispicable and the excuse he was bending to shake the sorter man's hand with his two hands is just another lie from his camp to cover his anti-American behavior.

Race baiters like you are the ones who continue to create a divide in America. One wonders if perhaps without the excuse of racism you so desperately cling to you'd be forced to look inward for answers to your shortcomings and failures.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

        You may have missed this

But if there is an American on the face of the earth that does not feel a deep seated sense of disgust and embarrassment over what WE, the people of the United States, allowed to be done in our name they should re- consider where they are living.

Having said that, I am well aware there are far, far too many out there that think this is perfectly OK. - jb

If you wanted anyone to understand what you were writing about I'd say yes. But actually, your constant posting of "HYPOCRITE" is really boring. You've become a one note political hack with no original thinking to offer. I will no longer read your posts in this thread.

The sad thing is you don't even realize that your unwillingness to compromise, the name calling, your broad generalizations about the "evil liberals" and your condescending way of talking to anybody that doesn't agree with you makes you part of the cause of this great divide in America. What's worse is that you also don't realize that you too are a one note political hack with no original thinking to offer, but you are quite good at spewing the extreme right wing talking points like they are fact.

You are welcome to compromise your principles. I choose not to do so. It's called courage and conviction.

I think there are plenty of Democrats who don't fall into the category of liberal. My generalizations aren't that broad. They're quite specific.

I'm pleased there is a Great Divide in this country. God help us all if too many fall under the spell of The Messiah.

I bring plenty of notes to the party. You did earlier but now your objective in this thread seems simply to respond to my posts with vitriol. It's much more becoming on you to put forth ideas rather than just spew anger at the condescention you interpret in my posts. Please note there is no talking on this forum. It is writing. The choice is yours whether to read "condescending" into the post. Don't blame me for your interpretation.

I prefer to work with people and compromise because I realize that nobody can have their own way all the time. It's something I learned in kindergarten.

In one post you accuse someone of causing the divide in this country and in another you are saying that you are glad there is a divide. Were you glad the divide existed when Bush was in office?

I'm far from angry. I'm just pointing out that you do the exact same thing that you accuse others of doing. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks for the semantics lesson, but truthfully I am not interested in it. When somebody starts correcting grammar and semantics it usually means they have no real answer to the discussion at hand. You know you intend to be condescending and have no defense for it, it has nothing to do with my interpretation.

You claimed that "a Fascist Dictator referred to liberals in America as Useful Idiots". I asked you to prove that "historical claim" and you still have not done it. That term was used to describe communist sympathizers in the west more than 50 years ago. More recently right wingers have used it to describe left wingers, but the last time I checked right wingers are not "fascist dictators." Or are they...

A very long way back in these posts I stated that I would be very glad to PROVE that Republicans, far right Christians and others are hypocrites.

You never responded but I will take your statement above as requesting my proof.

Hypocrite - somebody who pretends to have admirable principles, beliefs, or feelings but behaves otherwise.

The very basis of the Republican Party is low taxes, smaller government and less government control.

HOWEVER, virtually every single Republican President we have elected in history has INCREASED the size of government, left office with the largest deficit in history up to that time, put in MORE government control TO PREVENT government from doing its job and given benefits for large corps to NOT have to pay THEIR taxes while the middle class pays more. (In many cases, as has been the case with Bubba Bush, when the Federal taxes went down, State and Local taxes had to increase even more to make up the difference.)

                  Can you say HYPOCRITE?

Far right Christians SAY they are Christian and believe in Christ - you know, the Man of Peace, the Man of turn the other cheek, the Man of help your neighbor. But in practice they follow the believes in the Old Testament instead - you know, "let's go kick their ***. Maybe it is time the hypocrisy stops and they start calling themselves Jews. (I do not intend to show Jews in a bad light - just that they are not hypocritically saying they believe in one thing and doing another. Besides, most Jews I know want nothing to do with the Christian Far right's actions or attitudes,)

                  Can you say HYPOCRITE?

The veterans organizations and far, far too many vererans say they are PATRIOTS but they voted for, supported and still support a man that not too many years ago would have been lined up in front of a wall and shot - for desertion.

They call everyone that "did not wear the pin" - you know, the American Flag pin - TRAITORS, until their nominated pick, John McCain quit wearing his.

They say they are for the country and what it stands for but have not a word to say when the President tosses the Constitution in the trash by illegally spying on our citizens - among other things - passes the Patriot Act, tortures people, makes people disappear in the middle of the night and refuses to even say if they are holding them . . . should I go on?

                  Can you say HYPOCRITE?

They say they are for "free speech" - as long as it is THEIR speech and not someone who disagrees with them.

                  Can you say HYPOCRITE?

They say they love our country but then do everything they can to destroy the rule of law.

                  Can you say HYPOCRITE?

I can, of course, go on - and on, and on, and on - but why?

You don't care - you don't care about the country or other people. You don't care what others may think or say unless they agree with you.

Ohio, I change my mind about you - you are not an honest person with an opinion different than mine. You are a closed minded person who cares about no one and nothing but yourself.

IN short, you are a HYPOCRITE. - JB

Interesting timing as one of the networks pointed out the "talking points" in just the last few days. Seems several of our fine, upstanding Republican leaders stood up in the congress and raised objections about whatever the subject at the time was - and used THE EXACT SAME WORDS, word for word! We've reached the point in this thread where it's time to agree to disagree and move on. No one is listening to the opposing viewpoint any longer - all energies are now devoted to winning the point at all costs. It's not constructive dialog any longer, and is now edging into name-calling and insults on both sides.

Every member here has the right to believe what they want. However, repeating both sides of our political ideologies over and over in post after post has become redundant. Several members are now complaining behind the scenes using infractions and PMs to the moderators asking us to step in and control this thread or close it.

Everyone knows where the conservatives, liberals, and independents posting here stand on their political beliefs. Enough already - it's time to cease and desist the political rock throwing. Nothing our more conservative members say is going to change the mind of our more liberal members and vice versa. Time to let others in to share their thoughts. Let's get back to a civilized discussion.

If these "I will win my political point at all costs" posts continue from the same small group of members, because of the growing number of complaints from other members about the tone and disrespect they see which violate our forum rules, we mods will be forced to close this thread to further posts. I would hate to see this happen because our democracy is founded on the open exchange of ideas. But at some point, when the same points have been pounded home again and again with escalating vitriol, let's step back from the brink and return this discussion to President Obama's attempts to improve the economy, not a rant arguing whether conservatives, liberals, or independents in this country have the "one and only right way of thinking."

Everyone thinks what they think is the one and true way - we've seen that in many posts here - enough already; Other members, even those not posting on this thread, get it. No need to keep smashing everyone's faces into it. Time to agree to disagree and return control of this thread to other members who would like to get a word in edgewise.

I agree with you and think that was a very well thought out post.

I'm sure that it is true that a handful of people did vote for President Obama for the color of his skin because they never thought they would see someone with the same color of skin and boundaries in life be in such a position. It wasn't JUST because of the color, but because they knew that a man who connected with them for things that no one else outside of their community could understand would be the best one to represent them.

There were also a lot of people who voted for McCain for the same exact reasons. Not because they believed in his politics, but because they were afraid of a man of color being in office.

The very first words of my professor in Human Behaviour 101 were: "Prejudice is fear of the unknown."

I voted for Obama, proudly. It wasn't for the color of his skin, it was for what I believed we have in common. Because he knows what it is like to be the child of a single parent, to come from nothing and only want the same opportunities to become successful through hard work. He knows what it was like when his mother had to struggle to put food on the table for her children. I want someone in leadership who has that in mind, not someone who came from privilege and has no clue what life is like for those of us who didn't.

I don't want a hand out. I want the paychecks that I work hard for to be enough. I want someone in office who cares to make sure that they are enough. I want someone who cares enough to realize that good hard working and professional people (not just blue collar) are having a hard time just paying for basic necessities of life. I want someone who will at least try to make policies that will make that possible and not just say "Oh well, they should've done better for themselves."

I'm not a "kool aid drinker". I'm not African American. I am not an idiot. I am a person who has seen the world through my own eyes and can process my own thoughts enough to know that this man was the best candidate for me.

Human nature being what it is, when the bullets start flying, everyone not directly involved in the flame war of words ducks and scatters to not get hit by flying syllable shrapnel

When the intense verbal firefight ends, folks that see a lull in the action will carefully inch out of hiding and hopefully start up a respectful discussion here again. Jeb, thanks for cooperating to make that possible!
