sidework and cashing checks. will this come up?

i have a question about some side work i do from time to time. i usually get paid via a check from a different bank other than mine. i'll go to that bank and walk away with cash.

when i file bk, is there any way those checks will come back to haunt me? i don't have accounts where i cash them at. they check my id but only to make sure it's me.

    thanks!

If you receive payment in the form of a check and you cash the checks as opposed to depositing them into an account, you should be okay. My Trustee asked for bank statements and I guess that was to make sure I didn't have any unusual transactions or questionable money flowing in and out of my account. Since you don't have a bank account that shows you received that money I think you should be okay.

Now keep in mind that if that money is a substantial amount you are taking a risk with the Trustee finding out about it, but if the amount is small I wouldn't worry about it.

Do you do enough work for any one client that they send you a 1099? If you declare it on your taxes, then they could trace it that way, otherwise I wouldn't think so.
