    TurboTax~Never Again!

I have used TT for many years without a problem.
Today, over a month after I filed and got my refund from the state, I was glancing at their site and noted that my state income tax paperwork is no longer reflecting the information that I filed with the state and federal governments
I found that my itemized deductions were reduced by some $2000 and as a result my tax liability went up and I supposedly got less of a refund.
I don't know if this new version of my tax paperwork for the state and feds was forwarded or not.
I got my refund and spent that some 3 weeks ago. And to top it all off I owe the feds additional monies too and they have already been paid!
I don't know how a business can change your paperwork without notice to you, but they did. These are after all legal documents.
I called them and the girl I got was totally confused about the issue and said "we have never had anything happen like this before."
All I know is that I have the original paperwork and printed and filed on 2 Feb and the new stuff they currently show on their website.
I will never use this outfit again!!

Very interesting...never heard of that happening before with Turbo Tax.

The Today Show on Sunday had a story about finding peoples tax returns on websites used by scammers in Poland and Nigeria. They can access peoples returns when they have saved their returns onto their computers. They said that file sharing programs that people use to download music like Limewire is really bad for this. One couple had their refund taken by someone who had the refund wired to another account. I don't know if this is what happened in your case or not but it may be a possibility.

I agree, I started using them in either '93 or '94 with no problems.
I find this one very interesting.
I did send them an email with feedback as their cheerleader qualified customer service rep could do nothing on the phone nor did she offer any solutions.
I told them flat out that if I suffer any problems with either the feds or the state as a result I will take legal action against them.
How can they review and accept my filings and almost a month to the day later modify my returns??

I don't download the files to my computer. I just print them and they are only saved on the TT site. And I have no file sharing on my computers whatsoever.

Because Turbo tax SW has not modified their versions to include Stimulus Tax table changes recently by Obama?? (New/less tax, more refund)

Think about what you just said.
We are talking about tax year 2008 that I filed.
The stimulus package information is affective starting for withholdings only for income taxes (federal only) starting 1 April 2009.
One has nothing to do with the other needless to say.

I'm an amateur tax preparer doing 20-30 tax returns a year. I primarily used TurboTax until TT discovered this and sent me to TT Professional. I've never had an issue.

Then again, I use the software version and I always tripple check the numbers. I actually look at the 1040A (1040, 1040EZ) generated as well as all the other forms and schedules.

I'm not saying that everyone needs to be that meticulous, but it behooves one to check all their work. Many times, it is human error... or at least an oversight. There are some parts of the program (TurboTax) in which you need to manually copy and enter numbers. Especially around AMT credits and things.

As an adder... yes... stay away from file sharing programs. They are from the devil himself.

All I know is that I enter the figures that I have.
That information is reviewed by TurboTax and then each filing enity before it's accepted for filing for accuracy and such.
There is no excuse for modifying my returns without my knowledge and consent a month after the fact.
                    Period!!!

Turbotax "reviewed" your return??? The only time they do that, is if you purchase Audit Defense and pay $49 for that audit defense. Then they'll take a look.

Otherwise, you are always responsible for the contents of your return, regardless of whether it was prepared by a paid-preparer.

As an aside... just what did they change? Figures?

Yes my return is checked by them before it's sent. I get an email back from them each year stating this has been done after I am done with it. I also get an email telling me when each entity has accepted my return.
And all I do is fill in the figures as requested by the software for interest paid on the home and such, category by category. It's not rocket science here folks.
Then their software system does the math and does the final computations in accordance with the tables provided by the states and feds.
I have no responsibility for the math they do. What do you think I am paying them for?? If their software cannot add it's not my problem!
The figure than changed in this case was the total for the itemized deductions. They lowered my itemized deductions by some $2000 plus for some reason which of course resulted in higher taxes for both filing entities.
Why did they do that? Beats the hell out of me and they are denying they did yet I have copies of what I filed printed form their site on 2/2/09 and new copies I printed today.
Again, all done without notice or authority by TurboTax.

You need to do 1040X form (Amended Tax Return) to correct math errors and ask IRS to give back deficiency$$ to you.

I won't do a damned thing until I determine why my paperwork changed.
This is after the fact. What don't you understand. My stuff was filed a month ago and the refund and bills owed are paid and past tense.
I would not file anything based on a mistake on their site and at this point that is what i must consider has happened.
And one more time as you appear to be dense, I don't do the math, their system does!
