My friend told me that if you buy a home in 2009 that the government is going to give you money for doing so. Like more money at the end of the year or something like that. Is this true? I tried to look it up but I found nothing. Not that we are planning on buying one. Just wondering.

Yes, if you haven't owned a home in the prior 3 years and you purchase a home this year (I thought the deadline was Aug 09, but some have said 12/09), you will get an $8,000 credit on your '09 taxes. Some of the details have yet to be sorted out, but yes, there is a stimilus type check you can recieve if you buy a house, for your principle residence, this year. -
