    Explaining the Economic Stimulus Payment

This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

    Q. "What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?"
    A. "It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers."

    Q. "Where will the government get this money?"
    A. "From taxpayers."

    Q. "So the government is giving me back my own money?"
    A. "Only a smidgen."

    Q. "What is the purpose of this payment?"
    A. "The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy."

    Q. "But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?"
    A. "Shut up..."

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If you spend it on gasoline, it will go to the Arabs.

If you purchase a computer, it will go to India.

If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).

If you buy a car, it will go to Japan.

If you purchase useless crap, it will go to Taiwan.

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.
"To go bravely forward is to invite a miracle."

"Worry is the darkroom where negatives are formed."

This new stimulus package does absolutely nothing for the tax payer, its designed to bail out businesses...................
And these business will not do any hiring..... they will pay off their own debts and get their companies straightened out and try to salvage what they have left.

I don't beleive you will hear of many folks getting back to work...... we'll see!!

This package is designed to "save businesses"....... not the average tax payer and the tax payer is the one who will pay the price for it with more taxes, etc.

Well, at $13 a person (per week) it will take quite a while to buy anything. I'd rather them just send checks again. At least then we could use it for rent. I don't see how this way of doing it is going to convince anyone that they can afford to go spend more now.

Yeah, $13 a week isn't going to go far, and when the stores "raise their prices again" to get some of that $13, we're still no better off.

Anytime there is any kind of pay raise, prices go up to eat it up....

I too could use it in one lump sum and lot better than $13 a week....

I've decided to pretend I didn't get anything and apply $30 more per month toward my mortgage principal. I'm so upside down on my 2006 mortgage anyway that not even today's "foreclosure plan" would help me in any way. I just tread on..........

It's not 13 dollars per week, it is only 8 dollars per person per week.....

It will not stimulate anything, as Minny said this was a big bailout of certain special interest/businesses.

The bill excludes the one type of spending that has always pulled us out of recessions/depressions......military spending. It is what saved FDR and Reagan. After nearly a decade of constant fighting we need to replace many vehicles. Base maintenance has suffered in the USA due to moving the money to support the wars. If you talk about shovel ready projects there were a lot that the defense department could have put on the table but they were told not to submit anything, not only that but have to cut their budget by 10%.

I favor buying American made products. I noticed today that the only American made items in my local Walmart was toilet paper. Guess what word came out of my mouth?

If you look at the graph for the DOW you can see on Oct 2007 it starts to drop. I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence or not but that was when the last round of BRAC (base realignment and closure) kicked in.
I also know that just before that most of the funding for pulled for almost all building maintenance and vehicle procurement. Reagan gutted DOD by the way

LOL! Your posting brought to mind what another poster in another thread recently called Wal-Mart - "China-Mart."
