    What do you think???

Michael Phelps (Phelbs?) the Olympic swimmer who won a record # of gold medals - and is receiving all kinds of endorsements/money - has been photographed smoking pot.
Should these companies withdraw their endorsement agreements because of this?

Only if it's in his contract... which it may well be. Clearly his drug use isn't having much of a negative impact on the abilities that gained him the endorsement deals. Hmmm.... maybe I should've done drugs.

Not at all. I don't even smoke, and I tried it five times. Was not impressed less likely damage than cigarettes and booze. I say it is a news person with too much time on his hands. 'Hub

P.S. I do not approve of drugs but I do drink a beer now again and/or wine. That too is a drug.

When I heard this I thought: OF COURSE HE IS RELAXING WITH A LITTLE POT!!! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA THE DISCIPLINE IT TOOK HIM TO GET WHERE HE DID???

I'm sorry, but if I trained that hard for that many years, I would also be hoping to chill once or twice after I was done.

Of course, I think pot should be legalized and treated like alcohol & cigarettes. It's worse than neither and NOT a gateway drug. In fact, I think the whole gateway drug is a cop out- people who want to screw themselves over with harder drugs will do it whether pot is legal or not.

One thing I will NOT condone is smoking pot from Mexico. The drug flow INTO the US is screwing mexico and its INNOCENT citizens ROYALLY. The violence is escalating as the drug lords want to control the drugs to their best customer: the USA. I would never smoke anything that wasn't grown locally. If I smoked.

          Sorry, off soapbox!

As for his deals- that's their right to get rid of him. Do I think they should? Depends one what they;re selling and their targeted demographics. They should talk to their marketing depts before making the decision. I would bet that some of their demographics will be just as forgiving as I am.

He's a celebrity now and should have known better because the photographers follow celebs everywhere hoping to get that "moment." Well, they got it with him. I think his Olympic accomplishments will outweigh this "mistake" and any firms endorsing him that may deal with products for younger kids may back off for a while. It didn't make TV news when he was spotted getting lap dances or having bikini clad girls drapped all over him at a party. The endorsements didn't go away due to those scenarios....

Also remember he has ADD...having a husband and son with ADD and years of talking to doctors and research on the condition, I realize risk taking is part of having ADD but, of course, many people in the general population would not know that.

Absolutely not. Now they are reporting that this might entail criminal charges.

              Ridiculous. The young make mistakes.

At least he did not knowingly cheat on his taxes and try to run for public office as a grown man!

                Who cares?
He is a premier athlete and set a lot of records.
So where doing this is a ticket offense in most cases today with only a small fine and you can grow your own legally in many areas today. I don't think this is a very big deal at all.
I don't do drugs and never did. But many do.
We have had politicians not pay their taxes and do drugs and admit to it too. Nothing happens to them.

Even Bill Clinton, just after he was elected in 1992, said he did smoke pot - "but did not inhale".
And of course "never had sex with that woman..ah...Monica Lewinsky".
                  Either....!!!

It's like this, if you don't want to get caught, don't do drugs in front of anyone. If you're famous and or in the process of divorce, figure you're being watched all the time; it comes with the territory.

The "pot is no worse than cigs or booze" is legit. Ever heard of someone on weed going on a shooting spree? Robbery? ....please, everyone who smokes is home watching movies & eating popcorn.

It seems like the world always wants to bring down those who have risen....what a shame.

As far as his endorsements, I hope the endorsers have clean slates as well.

Well, publicity whether good or bad is still publicity. He will be the talk of the town and it will still boost sales for the products he's endorsing.

Well, heard on the radio on the way home from work that Kellogg's has cancelled its endorsement with Phelps citing that the image he is portraying is not an image that their company promotes. I guess a new brand of cereal called "Weedies" would not go very far? (Couldn't resist the joke...) :-) :-)

Nobody will say this here, but Michael Phelps made so much money for american vendors and businesses and television that I bet most of this is a slap on the wrist to appear as if they are doing something when in reality, nothing will ever be done to a golden boy like that. Even I.m impressed at all the medals he won and I never watch the Olympics unless it comes to Chicago, but other than that......this isn,t the first time he was in trouble. What about 3 weeks after he won the medals, he was in a strip club feeling some girl up on her behind. Hey, he is not above the law, but he is young so not that I.m giving him a pass, but young folks act stupid all the time.

I don.t even think he realizes just how important his medals are and the significance of them. His mom knows being a single mother and all...but him...not so much.
