Oh my, I am so sorry your Nicky isn't doing so well...as a animal lover myself (I have 4 cats and 2 dogs), my heart breaks as I am reading your posts (and everyone else's posts too!), my animals are my "babies" too. Were you able to get him to the vet today? Nicky (and you) will be in my prayers, hang in there and remember how lucky Nicky is to have family like you...

All my best during this difficult time.

    Liz

      thanks again for everyones support...
ole nick is a fighter...hes eating regularly, but in small portions and he keeps it down most of the time.....
i took him to the vet and he gave him a B12 shot... he said that hes amazed that nick has rallied so many times...
i told him right up front, that taking nicks life was not an option...
last night, nick was like the old days, he slept on my chest and put his head under my chin and purred....
in the middle of the night, he decided it was time to groom my hair for me... kind of aggravating when youre trying to sleep, but i realize i had better treasure the moment..
i was told again that hes living on borrowed time...
like i said, nicky knows how much im going to miss him and doesnt want to leave yet...

It has been 8 months since I lost my beloved Butchie. He, too, had renal failure and was 15 years old. I chose to have him put to sleep as his quality of life diminished and he was not eating and suffering greatly. He died in my arms at the vet's office. I still get tears in my eyes when I think about him. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him. He was such a big part of our family.

After several months, we adopted another kitty from an animal rescue. Our new boy is 2 years old and was apparently abandoned by his previous owners. Our vet said that because of the high percentage of foreclosures, the owners basically put the pets outside, lock the door and leave forcing the pets to fend for themselves.

Even though I still miss Butchie, my new boy has helped my heart heal. How can you not love another especially when there are so many furbabies that need a new home.

This is a horrible situation and folks knowing anyone with pets and in danger of foreclosure should talk with those people to ensure the pets get homes. There was a case in southern NJ (one of the beach towns, Brigentine, I believe) earlier last year in which a couple (husband employed by the City) were in foreclosure and left many pets, including small animals like turtles, hamsters, etc.) in their cages (dogs/cats also) and left, not letting anyone know. Well, guess what whoever came out to check on the property found several weeks later. He still showed up for his job during that time and let no one know he left those animals in the house. I believe he was fired due to all the publicity and I believe PETA got involved. There are other victims of foreclosure as we horribly find out...

To the OP - I hope everything works out as to your kitty - he is obviously very loved and cared for...

              any updates floridian????

and i think its horribly sad that some people cant afford their animals anymore.
ive had quite a few scares with sabastian and honestly was freaking out not knowing where i was going to get the money from, im very lucky to have the people in my life that i do who were able to pay for some of his medical expenses and are letting me pay back slowly....its very sad and unfortunate that some people dont have that. i know one thing, once things get better for me i would gladly donate to help a pet in need.

I'm sorry I'm late in seeing this. My Kitty also passed away after battling renal failure for several months. His brother passed away last March of cancer and my dog just two weeks before that of cancer. I still can't believe all three of them are gone after so many years of their love and friendship. We have adopted new animals and we love them to bits but still feel sadness over the others.

And on the people abandoning their pets... it makes me sick. I volunteer for a rescue that takes owner relinquished pets but we are overflowing with them. It's bad enough that people are just setting them outside, I guess they hope that it's such a great animal someone will find it and give it a home. The worst is the people who leave them in the foreclosed home. I placed a few dogs that had been abandoned and were found by agents starving, dehydrated and filthy. At least some of our shelters are stepping up and helping people feed their animals who are finding themselves in situations where it's that or relinquish them.

nick is acting like a kitty again... yesterday he was walking on the stockade fence...the night before he was down and had irregular heart beat... i should have named him super cat....

i saw on tv, that the local humane society is cutting funding and laying off employees.. it will mean that the animals will be put down sooner than before... this is the forclosure capital of florida and they said they are overwhelmed with abandoned pets..

it showed some kittens playing with a ball and frolicking... they were scheduled to be euthenized... i wish i hadnt seen it... damn!

I know.... I know. I would love to be able to adopt some kittens--can't do it. Our three are very 'territorial' and won't tolerate new additions. Sometimes they don't tolerate each other....

                      ...... *S*I*G*H*...

I'm soooo glad nick is doing better now
Okay, I have to stay away from programs on tv like that. The other night I was watching TV and came across a program called "Dog Town", it's an animal (no kill) sanctuary somewhere in Arizona (I think) anyway, I was glued to my TV set, those poor animals abandoned, left to die in the desert, this episode showed a dog SHOT to death and dumped!! I was horrified!! I went to bed and dreamt that I had NO WHERE to go (I sure it's my own anxiety about my pending BK) and had to find homes for all my animals (I have 6 all together). I was crying and crying because I couldn't find them homes and I knew that *if* I took them to a shelter that they would NEVER be adopted because of their little "quirks" and funky personalities!!! I woke up crying!! AGHHHH!!! Okay, no more watching programs like DogTown for me...
Those poor babies, and I also read that people with financial problems are just leaving these poor animals in abandoned houses (as the other poster stated)...it's just a sad, sad situation. I pray something will change....

Very cute cat. I understand your feelings. One morning I woke up because of a loud noise outside my room when I went out I saw a small kitten, when she saw me she said: "Mao!" Since then I've been taking care of her and called her Mao. Every time I arrive home from work, she would follow me every where. I love Mao so much. Such a sweetheart.
