    Bank lost my (cash) deposit!

I opened an account at TCF bank a few months ago and have been using it for major things only (car payment, utilities, etc) per the recommendation of my lawyer. Im filing chapt 7 on Dec 29th.

I went in on Saturday and deposited $270 cash so my lease payment would clear today. Checked yesterday and sure thing - per the online banking my $270 was listed.

Check today and the $270 is gone, like it never happened and I was in the negative for the whole lease payment! THANK GOD I saved my deposit receipt because when I went into the branch, they had no record whatsoever of the "reference number" listed on the receipt I usually throw the receipts away but decided this time to put it in the center console of my car because Im trying to keep the car more clean.

Sounds to me like a dishonest employee took an "early bonus" at my expense. Unforunately, I went thru the drive thru and didnt get a good look at who it was that handled my transaction, I do know it was a male.

All I can think is Man oh Man, Im trying to keep on the straight 'n narrow, and it seems like Im getting grief from all around me. This would be the first time an overdraft checking account wasnt my fault

Oh, and by the way, the bank took a copy of my transaction receipt, said I wouldnt be responsible for any OD fees, and that I should have my money back by tonight. Something about a deposit slip missing from the original teller or something... Has anybody else had problems with TCF bank?

I've had this happen to me before, but it wasn't at TCF Bank. A deposit of mine was in the "pending mode" all day, and then when it should have "hard posted" that night at midnight, it did not. Of course, I bounced checks, but the bank reversed the charges and put the money back in my account. They also called the places where I wrote the checks to, and explain to them what had happened. The bank drafted one of their own checks to the places where I wrote them to, since it was their fault. Luckily, I held on to my deposit receipt for my proof. This was over a year ago, and I haven't had any problems since them. The Branch Manager at the bank had told me to always hold onto receipts, whether they are from debit card purchases, or deposits, until they actually "hard post."

We are in the computer age. Sometimes it is not a person's fault. At this point, Mrs. is on unemployment and we are two weeks behind payment yet online the funds are there but not disbursed. Cannot get through on phone with same message, call back later. She put in her next week today and we will see. 'Hub

Mommy always said "Keep a record, or you may have a record you don't want"

I've heard of this before, but from now on, I'm first getting a printer to always weekly print out my deposits to my checking accounts...YIKES!!! (Yes, I have my check directly deposited)

Turns out it was human error.

The branch manager called me about 20 minutes ago and explained what happened. The teller forgot to turn in a deposit slip on their end. Thats why it posted on the computer and then disappeared, it was taken back out when they couldnt find a deposit slip.

Either way, somehow they still got $2.17 off of me Im not even going to waste my fight for $2. Turns out a few boating friends have had problems with TCF bank, after I discussed it a little, people started coming out of the woodwork. After the holidays, and with the permission of my lawyer, I'll have to find another bank because this has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Oh, I once went to a bank to deposit my measly paycheck (paid monthly and the check was like $1,870). I got my receipt and left the Bank and started heading back to work.

For some odd reason, I was bored, and decided to read the deposit receipt. Yep... $187.00 was deposited. I was like, OH NO!!!!!

I headed right back to the bank. I got in line, the teller saw me and waved me over. I didn't even say a word as she passed me a new receipt and motioned for the old one.

I am SO GLAD that I looked at that deposit receipt!
