ive got numerous cats, but my heart string is a 17 year old dumpster cat that i bottle fed when his momma abandoned him...

two years ago, he got really sick and was looking at death, square in the eye.. the first vet said he was dying and had feline aids (not leukemia) and needed to be put down...he had lost almost half his body weight and looked terrible...

the second vet comfirmed he was dying and nothing could be done, but put him down... i wasnt ready to say good bye, so i crammed every anti-biotic and vitamin i could find down him.. an act of desparation...

hes fooled everyone, and made a 100 percent recovery... hes gained his weight back and looks like a young cat again and eats like a horse....

the vet is amazed!....he said that he still has a heart condition and it could take him out...
i give him a vitimin B-12 shot once a month...
im just not ready for him to leave me yet...

One way to get your cat to a healthy weight:
Feed one 5.5 oz can of Friskies pate (any flavor) wet food per day. Divide can to feed 2 or 3 times/day. NO DRY FOOD! No snacks.
I brought my obese orange tabby (adopted at age 10 at an unhealthy 18 lbs to his present muscular 13.5 lbs, in one year.)

Fat cats can develop diabetes, especially when fed dry catfood.

there are two schools of thought.. dry food prevents dental plaque that leads to heart disease... my seventeen year old has always eaten dry food and has the teeth of a young cat..

My suggestion was concerning weight reduction by giving a cat his natural carnivorous diet, not the carbohydrate loaded typical dry kibble cat food. A high protein/fat and low carbohydrate canned food diet is like the Atkins diet for cats - but safer. Please read this site by Lisa A. Pierson, DVM:

                    http://www.catinfo.org/

An increasing number of American Veterinary Medical Association members, including board-certified veterinary internists, are now strongly recommending the feeding of canned food instead of dry kibble.

Actually there is little evidence dry food prevents dental plaque. This is what the dry food manufacturers (who use corn meal as the main ingredient) try to claim - and many vets accept this apparent myth. See comments below.

It's amazing that all animals (like people) - have different Looks, Personalties, dispositions, habits, etc.

Each one is unique, sometimes even owners look like their pets, lol.......
