    Large spike in spam

I've noticed there has been a large spike in spam. Perhaps another layer to creating an account or even making individual posts such as image verification is in order? I personally would be willing to take an extra step to make a new post if it would eliminate or reduce scripted spamming.

It's a balance for any system administrator. You want to balance ease of posting and usage, with keeping out spammers.

Many of the spammers are only playing on the weaknesses in the registration process. Some spamming tools are very good at spamming vBulletin based system... because they get a copy of the actual program source code and then exploit it.

I run a few vBulletin boards myself. The only way I could cut down on spam was to have all new user accounts moderated. That is, a human must approve the new account. You could only image how many new account requests I get a day (from spam engines).

It's hard to decipher what's real and what's not.

I personally do hope it gets better.

Hey, when you grow up on Spam as part of your weekly meals, you develop a taste for it....................
          Spam and cooked cabbage
Spam sandwiches, good fried or cold
          Spam salad on crackers
          Fried Spam and soup beans/cornbread

          Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, growing up poor..........................

Don't knock it till you've had a real good taste of it.........

Inexpensive, economical, and goes a long way and many ways.......

Now where's my "prime rib" that I LOVE SO MUCH!!!!!!

          Live's do change................LOL

There isn't a spike a spam here from a historical standpoint. Different tools have been implemented to curtail the number of spam posts that defeat the registration process and new methods are frequently under consideration as well.

I saw on the news the other night that there actually IS a spike in the sales of "Spam"! Apparently, they can hardly keep it on the shelves.

I mentioned this before, but it seems a good time to say it again. There is a very dangerous automated spam. If you see “a777,car,car,car,car,etc. DO NOT click on any blue links. This can vary to c777,link,link,link, and the links can be various places to seduce anyone to click. Once you click you will get a popup that looks like a Microsoft warning. It is not. It will say: you have spyware, click here for free scan from AnitvirusXP 2009. DON’T Click anywhere as even if you click the X close button you have just installed HELL on your computer. Go to control, alt, del and kill off the message in Task Manager. It will close all your browsers but you have avoided its intrusion.

I don’t know what the c777,car,car, is called but it hosts the XPantivirus 2009 or AntivirusXP 2009. It is worse than a virus as you have affectively allowed it to take over your machine. It does carry spyware in it and it can also kill a bulletin board or chat room such as this.
