    Wow.. Layaway is Back!

Who would have thought that layaway would make a comeback. Just received an email from sears about their new layaway program. I would bet all retailers will start this back up with the shortage of credit lately.

I was wondering how long it will take Walmart to bring it back One of the cashiers there had told me when they stopped it, they lost alot of business.

When I was a teenager and credit cards didn't exist, I bought a lot of "must-have" teenage clothes on layaway. I had a part-time job at White Castle (which no longer exists in South Florida) and also did babysitting. It was a great feeling when I finally got that precious item of fashionable clothing out of layaway on a Friday and wore it on my Saturday night date.

The return to layaway doesn't surprise me, given the current economic crisis. Delayed gratification may have kept our country from the financial ruin it is in now. And that includes those of us who experienced bankruptcy in the past, are experiencing it now, or are on the brink.

It's not very surprising that Sears is implementing Layaway. Their parent company K-Mart has always had Lawaway and never did away with it.

According to this article WalMart swears they'll won't bring it back......I'm sure they will if the people demand it.

Walmart feels intimadated by no-one..... They have put all the local stores out of business and will underprice anyone else so they see NO NEED to have a layaway system any longer. To them a layaway system is just a nuisance and lots of extra employees needed versus the sales they would have. Lots of people put things on layaway and then never pick them up. Thus lost sales, high employee costs.

I don't see Walmart bringing back "layaways" either......

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

The K-Mart's in this area did away with layaways years ago prior to all the bankruptcy issues they had. Maybe it was a regional thing with them. K-Mart was plastered on the front page of our paper earlier this week with a happy shopper pictured at their new layaway section with a cart full of Christmas toys to be put on layaway. You can bet that may have been staged to get people out shopping because retail everywhere is rock bottom! :-)

money here and there and not given to them until its paid in full. Why not, money is money. Layaway is a great idea for a business since lot of people are not using credit cards anymore

I've never used layaway, so I didn't know that all stores didn't have it.
And before anyone says it, no I didn't use credit for everything.
