I've been wondering how things were going for you, Chloe. I lived with a highly functioning alcoholic who never missed a day of work, made great money, was gregarious & well liked, yet horribly verbally abusive when drunk for 11 years, so I've been there, too. I agree with Mi Bankruptcy that it's very encouraging that he's back into counseling, but please listen to Cindy Lou and find some help for yourself above all. It seems counter-intuitive to focus on yourself when he's so obviously the source of the problem, but it works.

Alas, I've been through this, too. My mother had a series of strokes starting when I was 12, and by the time I was 17, she was unable to walk, speak, or swallow. She had a feeding tube. She had to be carried to the bathroom. Yet it took no less than FIVE YEARS of incredible persistence to have her declared officially "disabled". She collected all of 18 months of disability checks before she died, and if a very kind judge hadn't thrown the lawsuits that followed her death out of court, I would have ended up in bankruptcy before I turned 21.

What I'm saying is that these agencies, like insurance companies, make money by denying valid claims until you just give up in exhaustion or despair. DON'T GIVE UP.

All the best to you, Chloe...hang on.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone. I know he is defiletly an addict, he has had issues with pills too.

A heacy drinker is someone that drinks a 6 pack or more everyday. That's where we were.

Woodsprite, I know exactly what it is liek to live with a functional alcoholic. No one ever said anything about it but me. There are so many patched holes in the walls and broken things from the rages.

Someone else pointed out that there will always be slips and to focus on the positive amount of time that he didn't drink. That's what I'm trying to do.
