Sounds like the stimulus that was sent out. Never did hear much about that did we? Certainly didnt stimulate anything.

For the person who doesnt think people go hungry: I have always considered my family 'middle class' although we are probably not because we have such a large household.(considered poverty on the charts w/ family of 7)We went hungry for 2 days. Not a very long time but long enough that I will never forget it. Not a dime to our name, couldnt list on Ebay because I had no money in my checking to pay the Ebay fees, food stamps were useless because it was going to take a couple days to process. Thank God for family who helped us through.
Now I have a little better understanding what its like to be hungry. I also know that its not just the unwilling to work or the mentally ill that stand on the street corner begging for food. It could have been me! The regular soccer Mom who lives in the suburbs. I have a feeling that this is becoming more and more common across America. Breaks my heart.

We are now nearly 70 years later and history does repeat itself when you don't learn from it and while my grandmother's generation learned well about the necessity of savings they did a poor job teaching my parents generation, who thus taught my generation poorly, who thus taught the next generation poorly.
I could not agree more with the above statement. I am 36, people of my generation are sick of the Babyboomers "all about me" attitude. It happened when they were young( Woodstock). It happend with Vietnam ( those who fled dodged a draft, signed up for college to avoid war, It happened when they were my age ( divorce rates increased + dual income families leaving kids with sitters)

We are starting to pay the price fiscally as a nation for the "all about me attitude" and the lack of sacrifice required in any one area to be successful ( i.e family, job, community service) This a mindset that has been passed down to my generation. However, I have noticed my generation is NOT willing to sacrafice some of my examples above to appease corporate America. I have never known so many people my age where one of the parents are actually staying home to raise their kids..

A part of it is costs for daycare and our generation remembering being shipped of to babysitters or have grandparents raise us. However, its funny.. the baby boomers relied on their parents to help raise the kids.. Yet, the "all about me" generation wants nothing to do with it.. They still want to work and visit their grandkids. Does this apply to all? Of course not.. However, it is a trend.

I will tell you I am here( in this forum) because me and my wife who does not work in corporate America but decided to raises our kids. I guess after a combined 4 divorces from both are parents we were sick of the 'all about me generation"

We were fiscally irresponsible. We were not taking vacations.. buying 30K vehicles 250K homes.. I am here because I was not disciplined and saved to get what I wanted. I/we used credit cards to buy my riding lawnmower, new washer ,dryer & Fridge.

Our country is where it is at because of lack of accountability, self-discipline and worst of all relaxed ethics among policy makers and regulation.

I have learned my lesson and my children are already being taught about sacrifice and fiscal responsibility. You truly want to fix this country.. Start at home and in your own family. sacrifice and give money or your time to your community.

Sorry about my RANT.. However, I am mad that my country is in this position and that I am a part of the problem by claiming bankruptcy.

I don't want to get into the stats of why people don't go to available sources for food, but in this country there are tons of places for help. I am personally involved with food programs and could have given you at least 10 places where you could get a meal. Some places are for immediate help, some like the faith based Angel Food Ministries, discussed here, help long term if needed.

Want to see real starving? Go visit a third world country.

Your outlook is not grim nor is it glom & doom. It is about the truth and dealing with the issues humbly instead of being flamboyant or pretending all is well as if there are no big problems to recover from.

I understood what you were saying about the soup kitchens without a doubt. I live right next door to catholic charities. When the people go there for there bags of food, the people really need it and have to prove they are without. It has nothing to do with the government helping them at that time. That line has increased dramatically..then you have these idiots scamming the system with liar loans and the reality is they are stealing money.

I get so tired of the invinsible people putting us down for taking precautions, acknowledging the problems and mistakes of world leaders and preparing for the worse while hoping for the best.

I feel the same. We now have this generation who believes they are entitled to everything, living on credit, just for being born and could care less about those who are having difficult times. Me me me, and more me me me.

Your rant is right on. I, too, was just thinking this last night. I am very disappointed in myself that I walked away from a mortgage and am part of the problem.

As far as community service, also, a wonderful idea. Makes you realize that making do with a not so full refrigerator for a couple of days is not starving.

Why dont you go visit it and starve for awhile, then tell us all about it.

I went to mexico I saw the same pan handling & begging I see in this country...only here they have no legs and arms from fighting stupid wars that donot help anyone.

the USA is fast on its way to becoming 3rd world and no one is going to stop these global economics from taking the USA right down.

There is also no reason for those to starve in Africa, yet we have these lying political leaders who are content to keep them poor, keep them starving and dying so they can never rise or amount to anything.

Ths stimulus...another one of Spushes failures. This plan he has now is not going to fix it either.

ONly one time I would have gone hungry- when I could only get part time work for awhile in a restaraunt and I had at least one good meal a day because they gave us a meal for working each shift- at home I only had popcorn and macaroni for about two weeks every single day.

Yep guys I was part of the problem too, I've done a lot of learning since then, and thus far since my bk have accumulated no new debt. I'm strictly a cash and carry person at this time.

I agree a lot with MIs statements too

When I was young and dumb I actually believed in him as the greatest president of all time. LOL!

I always felt probably in my lifetime Carter and Ford were the most honest Presidents we had, but neither accomplished anything great.

Now some of Carter's recent statements and actions have made me wonder about him a little.

I am the same. If I had to pick one it would be Carter, at least for sincerity...perhaps not the most able but he stood for his country and not just for his own selfishness, unlike this recent moron in office who is all about himself.
Even in Carters old age I hear him speak well facing the problems but his era was a little different. I doubt he could handle all this today either...the old peanut man was the joke about him.

Oh we really gained as a collective nation from your oil war, bush. He needs to sit down and shut up and let these new ones figure out what is best. He will be out in 90 days & we do not need any more damage from him.

I will never forget when all of this started hitting the fan a couple of years ago and the public asked bush about the 4.00 a gallon gasoline, right along side his fear created situations, attempting to rule the globe with fear.
he stood there in a bald face lie in his typical drunken ignorance and arrogance, pretending like he had no clue what the price of gasoline was...that coming from an oil man!...to date, the most corrupt business on earth.

I listened a couple months back to a speech from the leader of IRAN(Mahmoud Ahmadinejad). He said it's not the shortage of oil.. Their is plenty of it. He blamed it on the speculators in Washington and people around the world. I thought he had some good arguments in his speech

The bad thing about this guy.. I have listened to other speeches and they seemed batty as hell. So, it was hard to tell if he is only credible when his head is on straight.

yes, I copied his name off google.
