RANT! Rediculous health insurance, 2 visits for the whole yr, get to pay $225/month!

I signed up for health insurance with blue cross.

I understood the benefits to be 2 visits covered, then 30% copay for additional visits.

Oh no! I called up yesterday to get clarification...it's 2 visits for the entire year and pay 30% copay for each of those visits. After that, get to pay 100% of whatever the doctor charges.

I get to pay $225 a month for that health insurance. WTF?! (sorry) What's wrong with that picture? That's nearly useless. It's rediculous and obsurd.

Does anybody have health insurance for individuals that more reasonable than that???

    Eek!

I pay $368/month - that is for one person - a woman - who has no uterus and no major health issues..other than being age 57. I pay 100% on doctor visits and have a $1500 deductible. Probably will have to give up this "protection" to pay the other bills, even after BK. I can't afford it.

Maybe try AARP. If you get off of medical, it is hell getting back on and whatever probs you had in the past would be exempt as precondition. At 57, still a 'spring chicken', you need to keep your medical up. There are other plans such as Major Medical that could be cheaper but you do pay 100% except if you need major work such as cancer or accident. Please reconsider as it is so important when you need it. 'Hub

Word of caustion with health insurance. Do a lot of DD before you even apply. I didnt and luckily stopped payment on MegaLife before they cashed my checks. I got this jerk insurance guy that sounded like he had my best interest in mind when he actually worked for this co and wasnt an independent broker. He told me to cancel my Pacific Care immed. I knew then something wasnt right. You just dont do that!!! Im still looking since my health insurance just went up again starting Oct...
I now pay 720 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You want to talk about a rip off Im moving to Canada
Forgot to add MegaLife? There a part of AARP....buyer beware

And state employment. That's the best part about my wife's job benefits. No copays and no paying into the plan.

Ms. Cali: We are proud of your Dh serving us and risking his life between us and a bullet. I pray for these fine men every night. He and you deserve a break as you are sacrificing much and even perhaps everything to help people as we are. Now you Ms. Cali are one of the fine people that in your own time still aid others in desperite need. I cannot tell you how much I have learned from your posts, as I follow you around here and there.

Keep up the good work. GBWY 'Hub and Mrs.

bcvw - The only time I have to pay for something is if I get my meds at a pharmacy off base. ]

Every year, my Employer has decreased the options (while increaseing payments) for health insurance. We still do have half-way decent plans for a Self-Insured Employer.

I always buy the most expensive PPO/EPO plan that's offered. The NICE thing my Employer did, is that "routine" visits and "prevention" visits (including wellness, well-being, well-child) are all covered 100%.

The bad thing... absolutely NO coverage "out of plan". So I have to ask the Rescue Wagon which hospital they are going to FIRST.... while I'm dying!

I was with Blue Cross for years, paying an average of 450. per month, individual, 57 yr. old woman, no health problems. It went up every, single 6 months.

I never used the insurance, which is a good thing, but had to switch to a catastrophic plan at 150. per month, 10,000. deductible. It covers a crisis like heart attack, etc. I pay all my own ordinary medical bills now and unfortunately schedule check ups every two years now instead of every year.

Sad, now that I probably need annual check ups compared to when I was younger, I can't afford them.

When we had individual health insurance, our policy was $700/month. No health problems...except I get frequent migraines (about 20 days per month I'm unable to function). Blue Cross Blue Shield allows me 6 pills per month, which cost me $60. We now have ins. thru BCBS thru DH employer for $450/month. My 6 pills per month now cost me $30. So I guess that's better.

My mom and dad pay $1300 per month. Mom is a diabetic though.

There should be limits for health insurance!!!

check out HSA - Health Savings Account - part health insurance/part 401K.
These are high deductible - $5800/yr for family> These policies will have lower premiums, so if you can save the difference. It goes to a 401K, but can be withdrawn tax free for medical stuff. If you don't see the doctor often, this helps remove the feeling of paying for a premium & not using it.

If you can go for 1 year with nothing major, I'd think you are ahead. I had one for a while:
                          traditional family coverage - $700/month
                          HSA coverage - $323 - savings of $377/month.

It's not for everyone, so check it *close* for your situation..
getting so close to finally filing...

Those were the good ol' days, when Hubby was in the USMC (except for that li'l ol' Viet Nam thing it was pretty good). Got to spend 3 glorious years in Hawaii too - not bad!

Medical was free back then for all of us - pretty much.

My son's birth cost a total of $5.25 (that was $1.75 a day for food while in the Navy hospital)

Now Hubby gets his VA medical - mostly free (again, b/c of that Viet Nam thing - and the diseases caused by Agent Orange, like prostate cancer, diabetes, etc).

I'm just blessed that he's still with me!

Can you increase your deductible, it might help you lower the payments.
