You know your only real God is the government. He watches over all of you, knows when you're naughty or nice (oh sorry that's Santa), and monitors your life and finances more than you can imagine. He also asks, like that other God, for you to tithe a bit of your income to him, according to what you can afford, it's called progressive taxation. And he makes no promises about your fate after you die, but he's always there to help you when you need it here on earth; ("I'm from God and I'm here to help you.")
I wonder how successful religions would be if they didn't make any promises about the afterlife. Is there any religion that just says: "When your dead, your dead?"
