Since the plan is for me to file in October...

I don't understand why my microwave choose TODAY to die!

Under the rules of the "New Filers Curse", isn't it about 5 weeks too early?
    Bother.

Not if it was the front line domino.

Ouch! And it couldn't have been a desktop 'puter, which are easy to swap out CD drives.

AaaaaaaMEN! I remember someone saying that it was more likely that by the time we all got to the point of filing, that everything we had was worn out, almost broken, etc. Thats probably true...but I like calling it the New Filer's Curse, just the same.

I think I figured out why the average American family moves every 7 years. Because most appliances hit their end-of-life about that time. My garbage disposal gave up the ghost a month ago. When I replaced it I checked to find out what the average life span was on a disposal, and when I saw "7-10 years" on a whole list of common appliances....I got worried.

Try the Salvation Army for a microwave. You can find a good deal there. At least a unit that can carry you through for a few months. Bring something organic you can test in the microwave.

Say, a small container filled with water.

There's usually an electric outlet somewhere in the store for you to test electronics.

If your container catches fire or the water doesn't get warm/hot, it's probably good idea to select another one....LOL

If you can get to a samsclub or costco, you can nab one for around $40-60.

I can't remember what now, but I do recall when I filed, I had the dominio effect of things to go wrong too.

Good ideas, thanks! I didn't use it all that often anyway, I might rough it for a bit.

Absolutely, Craigslist consistently has good deals on so much stuff. I have bought and posted a lot through them the past few months. Highly recommended.

bahahaha - oh ok so i was thinking about this the other night: our stuff knows we filed and decides to 'help' us feel poor by breaking on us. but -- what the heck is with so many of us getting better jobs or raises or bonuses after we file? it's like the other side of the bk filer's curse is a blessing that unfortunately causes 341 stress and panic, lol

First, you should realize that filing was just a few weeks away for nearly a year...

We lost a connecting rod bearing on our main vehicle last summer on the way home from getting medical treatment in another state. -- not good. We ended up letting the truck sit all winter waiting to file because it didn't make sense to fix it and then lose it -- but we didn't file. Right after the first of the year we replaced the engine with a new one I got from eBay using our tax refund -- yay!

This fall we finally filed and found out the Credit Union won't give up on the cross-colateralization on the repaired vehicle so we're going to lose it -- boo. A week or two before the 341 meeting the transmission gave out on the vehicle so they'll get it back broken -- again.

If I can only convince them to abandon it here I'll fix it back up again and drive it another 100,000 miles. Maybe bad things happen for a good reason!
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.
