Well, do you think Obama should have vetted and chosen Clinton as his running mate? Would it have bagged the election for the democrats?

I am thinking McCain might just choose a female running mate.

Another voting year, that I must vote for the less of the evils. Anyone, who is not a failure, is out there running corporations not promising stuff to those who wait for Gov'ment, to bail them out, but get out and do for themselves. Sorry about my attitude. 'Hub

I don't think McCain will pick a female.

And I think Obama should have picked Hillary for his running mate.

The outcome this year will be interesting either way.

I also think Obama should have picked Hillary for his running mate. Truthfully, she should have been the nominee.

I would like to see McCain pick a woman VP, but don't think he will.

I would have loved such a ticket, except that Hillary is too independent and strong-willed to occupy the VP spot. She would try to dominate Obama at every opportunity, and because of this, very little work would have gotten done in the end. My opinion.

McCain may choose a female VP in desperation because he knows he's in big trouble and needs help. We'll find out soon enough.

I think Bill gave a great speech tonight. I've always loved hearing him speak, and had the privie to meet him 4 times in his 8 yrs of being President.

I think Michelle is strong willed as well, so Obama should be used to it. LOL

They thought he was going to mess it up, but it was great.

Still can't get over how badly he tainted his presidency, damn fool man, lol.

The tribute I found hypocritical was Ted Kennedy. Nothing good he has ever done can make up for the life he took. Caroline Kennedy, BTW I think an awful speaker, stood up there and talked about how he never misses a family event. Yea, okay.

Politics aside, the speeches were very moving and the display of family this year is wonderful from the beautiful Obama family to the heart wrenching speech of Beau Biden talking about losing his mother, to the tributes the candidate made to their parents.

I took nothing political from the DNC, but I did get a renewed sense that in America, people can come from nothing and work hard and become successful. It happened in my family. If only I could, I would share my story with you. I reminded my kids all the time that their great grandfather came off a boat with nothing.

We need to remind our kids that in this country they can strive for greatness and stop the whining and moaning. Make a mistake, fix it, and then move on.

My favorite line was in Hillary's speech. She said that Harriet Tubman told her escaped slaves that when they heard the dogs, keep going.

                Apropos for BK, and life.

I don't really think Obama could, or should have, picked Hillary. The campaign would have been a disaster and if by chance they got elected, their leadership would have been a bigger disaster. Too many issues, conflicts, and infighting would have ensued.

At the same time, I don't think Biden was a great pick.

The problem with this election is we have two senators running. Nixon was the last senator to be elected President, but he served as VP before becoming a Senator. The last person who only had congressional qualifications before being elected to President was JFK (LBJ had half a term as VP before becoming president). If McCain is smart, he will go outside of Washington and tap a Governor or Former Governor as VP to solidify the "outsider" image.

I think we are in for a close fight. Obama's speeches may have wooed the Democratic faithful, but I think in the wider election, the independents will be looking for substance, which Obama lacks...but only time will tell.

I don't think Obama is a good speaker either.

Ted Kennedy has gotten away with so much in his life, maybe this is karma for him(not trying to be mean).

Today was history, but I think both parties have a lot of work to do in order to make sure they win in November.

I am glad that Obama did not pick Hillary. I think she would have made a wonderful President however, she would have completely dominated him as VP. I think McCain has to choose a conservative that can appeal to his Christian base, Leiberman won't do it and if he choses a woman it might take from the unhappy Hillary voters but not appeal to the base....if his base stays home on Nov 4th he is in trouble.
By the way..... what happened to nominees not announcing their VP during the other parties convention?....That has been an unspoken courtesy for decades.

When the Republicans are desperate to take positive media attention from Obama in any way possible, why would the they care about tradition?

Winning in any way possible has become the order of the day in the US, even if you have to trash your own ethics and beliefs along the way to do so. Deliberately lie? Cheat? Twist the truth? Doesn't matter as long as you win.

This "win at all costs no matter what the damage afterwards" attitude is slowly but surely destroying us as a country and a culture. Elections expose this attitude in the most ugly and open ways, and it costs us citizens something precious - trust in our government and respect for its leaders - as we watch the carnage unfold. This election year is no different.

Basically I see "very little choice" when it comes to the candidates that are running, meaning the Democrats and Republicans both. Neither platform offers much to the middleclass. No matter what they might "say"!! It's all about "oil" and "politics as usual".........
If Hillary ran on the "independent ticket" in the final vote, she would probably take both out in the end......... and if her running mate was Colin Powell, it would be won by a "landslide".............

                          Just a thought.............

Did I miss something? Has McCain announced his running mate. I know that Obama announced his pick the Saturday before his own convention started. Everything I have heard or read says that McCain will announce his pick sometime after the DC ends (today) but before the republican convention starts (on Monday). So we should expect to hear an announcement sometime this weekend. Which would be very similar timing to Obama's announcement.

As for an Obama/Clinton ticket I think it would be a horrible idea. If he can't woo Clinton supporters any other way he has other problems. Clinton on his ticket would alienate too many moderates and independents. Additionally, it would definitely alienate any moderate Republicans who may have been willing to cross party lines to vote for him. A lot of people love Clinton, but a lot of people really hate her as well. Plus as someone else mentioned she is a very strong personality to contend with. Plus I’m not sure he wants the former president that comes having Hillary as a running mate. I certainly wouldn’t want the former president looking over my shoulder in addition to the woman who almost beat me in the primaries.

I would love to see McCain choose a female running mate. But I’m guess he will choose someone who will appeal to the conservatives in the Republican party who aren’t exactly thrilled to have to contend with McCain as their party’s candidate of choice.

I am such a political junkie......I just wish an honest, hardworking person had a chance to take any high office in America. You either have to be a liar, thief, or be in bed with someone (read: corporate bed partner) to have a political career in America. I know there will be exceptions, but unfortunatly those are few and far between. I always excercise my right to vote and encourage my children to be involved with discussions about it all. We have all as a family watched many debates and the DC. It is quite amazing the simplistic sense these kids make.

I think the number one thing that could be done to clean up politics is to remove the lobbiests and thier $$. Ya think that will EVER happen? Not a chance as far as Washington will ever be concerned. Until then I can hardly trust anything a politician says without wondering who greesed (sp?) his or her hand. The speeches are dynamic, the canidates polished, and the visual appeal lacks for nothing, yet I still walk away with no substance from any of them.

                              Me for President!!! Whoo Hooo!
