    Wedding Dress Question!

I'm getting married in October, and my dress has been in a box from David's Bridal since March, since I don't want my fiance to see it.

When I took it out and tried it on, the bottom is a little wrinkly.

So here's my question: If I let it hang, will the wrinkles work out? Or should I get it professionally dry cleaned before the wedding?

I would take it out of the box and hang it. Does your iron have a 'steam' function? Good 'ole hot steam will do the trick....

    BTW, Congrats!!!!

Wow, I didn't even think about that. DUH! lol

Thanks Liz!!!! He's my high school sweetheart - we're getting married on our 6th anniversary.

I've also heard about draping a white sheet over my dress/the hanger to protect it. I think I might go hunt down an old white bed sheet and do that tonight.

Steam up a bathroom, putting a light sheet over the dress to keep it from getting wet (if that's an issue).

Besides being a good way to break up a croupy cough (kids), I iron all kinds of things that way

I was going to suggest the steam in the bathroom as well, but it can be tricky.

Then I thought, take a clean spray bottle, put some water in it, spritz ever so lightly, then blow dry with a hair dryer.

              THEN I thought--OH OH!--Shrinkage? AARRGGGHHH!!!!

What type(s) of material are you dealing with? If some of them are subject to shrinking, you could be in trouble. I would call the place you bought the dress from and ask their opinion on what to do. Or, if that isn't an option, call your local home extension agent and ask what to do.

You could also use a very cool iron and press the hem. But if there is any question of damaging the gown, all of the above advice is not worth ruining the entire gown. People will be looking at YOU, mostly from the waist up, not at your hemline.

Good luck to you, and congratulations.

Actually, depending on where you live, the humidity could be a killer, so just hanging it in the closet might do the trick, too.

Word of caution... make sure you start with the lowest setting on the iron.

Thanks everyone! I'll start working on the wrinkles (hehe) this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's satin; it was a bargin and I love it! Here's a picture of my dress:

Absolutely gorgeous, with clean, simple lines. I can see why you are concerned about the hemline. Good luck! I haven't messed with satin much, but yes, if you try the iron, its got to be the lowest possible setting.

                        Beautiful dress! Simple and elegant.

I was going to suggest having it steam-pressed at a dry cleaners, if you have one nearby. Usually they have a form to hang it on where they push a button and steam is emmitted more evenly. But since it has pretty simple lines - you can probably just do the bathroom thing and with a not-too-hot iron go over any stubborn wrinkles.
