Need help with moving to a new city

    Hi guys,

So, as you'll read in a previous post, I just lost my job. That, combined with the fact that I am divorced, live far away from family anyway, and rent my house, have caused me to strongly consider the prospect of just moving someplace else altogether. The problem is, I don't know where I'd want to go. Anyone wanna give me some ideas?

Depends on what you are looking for, what you want to do and if you want to be close to family/friends. Some places in the US are starting to boom away with certain things and some are suffering terribly due to the economy.

Any places you would like to live? That's what we did. We relocated when my husband was laid off and our townhouse we rented was sold (all within a month of each other). Hubby and I always wanted to live in Southern California so we left WA and headed south.

I did exactly that 3.5 years ago.

I moved from SoCal to Texas. Oh, what a culture (and weather) shock! I am at the point where I am now considering moving back so I am closer to family (and all the headaches that can entail), but having trouble reconciling the pros & cons:

No family here, just myself & 2 kids.
The weather in the summer is hot and humid
The cost of living in TX s a little lower as far as rent, housing, and no income taxes.
Electricity is out of the roof! Deregulated...

The major thing that keeps me here: THE SCHOOLS! Both of my kids need special ed, and I'm not sure if I can get the same quality of services anywhere else.
That is mainly the only reason I stay here.

What do you want to do, what is important to you.

As Flamingo mentioned there are cities in the country that are still undergoing a growing market (luckily mine is one of those). Depending on what type of work you do it might be wise to consider some of those locations.

Do you want sandy beaches, hills for hiking, the ocean, someplace without humidity, someplace city, someplace rural, someplace with a unique culture. Figure out what appeals to you then try and find good markets that have that.

So for example - If you want hiking, fishing, hunting, and a health concious population, and cool weather. Colorado may be the place for you. Look at cities in Colorado for the cities most likely to have growth in your job sector.
