Yep, I work in a different state than where I reside. If I log on here at work, I get ads geared to this state; at home at get ads geared to that state. I never click on ads like that anyway no matter what web site I am on. Just as my hubby said this morning when I asked him about it and just as you confirm, you can be identified. ...but the way they are placing the ads now makes it look like the ads are posted/spammed by the members as they are within the posting area and it appears every 5th post (?). Where as before they were in between each post & within their own space & easy to scroll by...now, as you read a members post you end up reading right into the ads as you read to the right...

Making it much more difficult & obnoxious to read the posts.

I was wondering about the ads myself. When one suddenly inserted itself into a post I made yesterday, I was concerned as a 'newbie' because I knew I hadn't clicked on anything to insert it myself. I didn't want the moderators to think I was trying to spamm anything. My husband and I are so appreciative of this forum community.

        Thanks

Hi guys, I know some of you don't like the ads. But since, generally very few people click on the ads, putting the ads within posts is really the only way to get a couple of extra clicks; this is needed to pay for costs of running the forum and paying for software and upgrades.

For example, if you go to google.com and conduct a search, you will see that approximately 45-50% of the screen is taken up by advertisements.
          Example:

In comparison to that our ads don't look so excessive after all.

I wish it had made sense sooner! You should consider spreading the word.

Look... advertisements are unfortunate and necessary. More advertisements are unpleasant and they have no direct benefit to anyone. The answer is the clicks!

If I had only thought about the problem I'd realize that click-throughs pay the bills...

Why not let everyone know that the forum is free to it's users only because of advertising support and advertising support only helps when ads get clicked. There's GOT to be a polite way to spread the word and solicit the help of benevolent users like myself.

If you'll find a polite way to spread the word, I'll bet we can help reduce the need for obtrusive advertisements AND increase the amount of revenue you receive by improving the click-through rate.

I hereby resolve to click at least one ad every day that I visit the forum! Is there any other volunteers?
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

That's mighty nice of ya to use and gain knowledge and free advice from these kinds of forums, but not even be decent enough to click on the add to help the owners get a measly .50 or so to help fund the site.

I am sure the ads are just so "Intrusive". Please! Not more intrusive than people who frequent sites giving out free information that makes their lives easier and not be giving enough to spend the 1 and a half seconds to click on an ad.

My husband owns and runs several websites and so I see the other side of this issue. I can't even believe you are proud enough to feel comfortable enough to admit to not helping this site. How many times have you been helped on here?

Obnoxious? Hardly. It isn't difficult. lol I am sure the information that you garner on here for free will more than make up for the 1 second it takes to scroll past a google bot ad post.

Obviously the ads inserted into a thread are placed for maximum clickage. Instead of griping about it why not help this forum you frequent by clicking on the ad?

I don't understand all this griping. Correct me if I'm wrong but no one here is paying for the hosting and bandwidth here? Google ads are the way the site owners help pay for that. Your attitudes are extremely selfish.

Selfish? Before you charge people of being selfish over some stupid ads that they may not wish to read, get to know the people first?
I do not need to click on a bunch of ads to find a good lawyer, just because you think I should click.
I for one do not wish to have all that crap all over my computer just because you think I should click on a bunch of spam.

I disagree & yes I do find this new layout obnoxious. It is much easier to not frequent & find the info online elsewhere, where there is also no charge than to read all the spam & without arguing with people. As for getting info, I gained way more info at other websites than this & without the aggrevation, attitudes & bad advice like people telling me to click on spam.

FYI, This to me is a place for people to gather & help each other get on track & show them where to find the correct info, & to uplift those who are suffering, share good times & bad times not to argue with people & not to call them names like selfish.

You have your opinion, I have mine & others who will disagree with both you & I.

Instead of griping about everyone here not clicking the ads to satisfy you, & accusing people of being selfish, why dont you click the ads & read the spam extra for those who do not wish to. YOu could even go to many free public computers & click to your maximum hearts content if you are so eager about maxing out the clicks, just because you think everyone else should do what you do.
                  thanks!

Looks like I hit a nerve..... you've got quite a guilty conscience there... By all means, if you think there are better websites than this out there, then what are you still doing here? Don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out.

I don't need to argue the point that if you regularly use and gain benefit from a website's services you should click on an ad out of a sense of doing the right thing. Obviously a person with a user mentality doesn't want to be reminded of doing the right thing.

Did I say I am guilty of something? No I did not.

I do not need your rude comments & insults. I am also not here to be harassed & told to do what you think is best for everyone else!

I also do not need you telling me what to do on some regular basis. I did not tell you not to click them so stop telling me & everyone else here to click it. Your opinion of doing the right thing by clicking on spam is not everyone elses opinions & quite frankly most of the ads are worthless.

People are also not here for you to judge them on your opinion of user mentality telling them they have to click on spam if they want to be a member & that they have to leave if they dont click the lousy ads.

the ads are not nearly intrusive as you are being to the members here with that big long pointy finger telling us all we have to click the ads. There is no rule that says we have to do it & neither does your own made up rule apply here.

How many times have the members here helped other members? You are certainly not helping me, that is for sure.

As many of you have already noticed the forum now has Ads formatted around the posts. This change may take some getting used to, but will become less of a distraction as you become accustomed to them. While I realize that there a lot of mixed feelings about the ads new formatting strategy, I ask that everyone give this change a chance...Ads are common ways for a forum to generate some revenue to help cover its operating costs. No one should feel compelled to click on any ads they feel may lack credibility; use common sense when considering ANY ad you come accross. Additionally, the running of ads also aides in keeping the forum free to our members.

While the Admin/Moderator staff appreciate your feedback and recommendations regarding ways to improve this forum. I will be closing this thread because it's tone and posts are heading in a direction that is in opposition of the forums code of conduct.

There, I clicked an ad, I feel better now.

I think the main concern is probably that some of the advice given is sponsored by the advertisers and may bring down some credibility -- since it goes inside of a post and not around it ... but I could be wrong.
