Because, you know, I don't have enough on my plate....

I was backing out of my parking spot at work and *WHAM* collided with another car.

The cop ruled it a no fault. I honestly think it was her fault... I was looking behind me as I backed up and it was the space between looking over my left shoulder and looking over my right that we hit. She wasn't there when I started moving and the marks on my car show that she connected with the right side of my bumper before scraping across the back.

Anyway, she's fine, I'm fine, my bumper is trashed and the whole side of her car is toast. I'll call my insurance company tomorrow and see what the fallout is. I imagine this will delay me turning the car in to the bank

Umm, correct me if I am wrong, but if you're surrendering the car to the bank, who shives a git what condition it's in? I don't mean to sound callous, but why pay your deductible (possibly raising your rates) if you don't have to?

Glad to hear everyone is okay though.

Glad everybody's okay and I see you still have your sense of humor, which I feel is a tremendous asset to have during trying times such as going through a bankruptcy. I came within mere inches of colliding with someone at Walmart exactly as you described, me and the other driver apparently didn't check back over our other shoulder until the nick of time. Very close call! So sorry about your car and having to file an insurance claim and all.

This sounds like it makes alotta sense, if you are going to be surrending the car down the road! Did you all trade insurance info? I would wait until she files a claim, in the end - these days, all insurance companies know about the other so eventually your insurance company will likely find out about your fender bender.

You're not wrong, Running, I'd rather not fix the car. Even if I were keeping it, the damage isn't bad enough to bother me. However, we're both with State Farm so they're going to find out about it. I figure it may as well be from me.

Yeah I wouldn't let it delay your filing though unless you absolutely have too. Sorry to hear of the trouble, hope things start sailing smooth for ya

Oh I didn't realize that both you and the BF had State Farm. In that case, yeah, it does make sense.

If you surrender a car that is damaged, some times the creditor will file the insurance claim to fix the car. The only thing you would save though is the deductible.....if they do in fact file the claim.

Honestly, I would just give it back and let them deal with it.

Regardless of whether your insurance company finds out about the accident, the only way it will affect your rates is if there is a "claim" involving over $700. (amt varies by state.)

So if they creditor does not file the claim, then you are free from the deductible and also the rate increase...regardless of whether they find out or not.

Argh. And a lot of other choice words that I'm too polite to type.

Even though at the scene the officer said we were equally at fault - the other driver even said she could have been paying better attention - on the report he coded it as MY fault! I tried calling him to question it but naturally he's off work until Monday. If he doesn't change the report, it's going to go against my insurance. Which means I have no choice but to file a claim.

The totally *$&^#@! part of this is that I was going to surrender the car this coming week, turn in the plates and put my insurance on suspension (so it isn't actually canceled) because I'm going to be driving a friend's car for a while. Now I can't do any of that until this is dealt with. Just when I thought I was getting things under control, it goes spinning away from me again!

Why, just once, can't something go smoothly? Why??

                    Dang sorry to hear .

I hope you get it cleared up, just the bumpy trials before freedom. Look towards the day when all your debts will be gone and you will have that great weight lifted and smile a little.

Thanks, JR, that's all I can do, right?
Eventually it's got to get better

I wouldn't worry about getting it fixed, it's not your car or your problem anymore.
