    Sky Lanterns - Fireworks

If you like fireworks check out this type. They use these in weddings and in the oriental lands but are becoming more popular here in the US. They are quiet, big & beautiful and they last a long time for a firework.

The first video is nice and shows how they go all the way through. The second video has lanterns from many festivals filling the sky with the crowd below letting them go- really neat.

A trip to see the sky lanterns in Pingxi -- truly a unique Taiwan experience. The music is from a Heavenly Melody album: "Suzanne plays Heavenly Melody" favor...

The winter is really starting to wear on me and I cannot wait to get outside for the summer festivities, especially firing off some mortars, cakes, fountains and my favorite- sky lanterns.
I lit some off for my 90 year old Grandmother on New Years and she just loved it.

Ok, I am a pyro. I love bon fires, camp fires, fireworks, wood stoves, fireplace, candles, tiki torches, even lightening bugs, star gazing...anything like that.
How about you? Do you have a favorite firework or a show you see in the summer? or maybe you just light candles and fountains?

That is really beautiful, all the lanterns in the sky in Taiwan!
Here they probably wouldn't let you do it- seems like a fire hazard.

That was good one, lrprn. I missed that one when I was watching them but it was probably the best lift off of them all. I find that very soothing. It was kind of comical but also neat that they light them (sometimes) and put all their troubles into the lantern and send them far far away

I would not even think about doing one out there. It is way too dry. Unless I was many many miles on a boat in the ocean. They do travel a mile high and no one can say for sure the distance east & west. Maybe some people could do them if they are deep into the valleys & vineyards during rainy season with no wind.

When I was in college there was a pyrotechnics conference in my home town. You could pay a couple bucks to see the shows in the evening. Those were amazing fireworks shows. After all everyone brought out the best and newest of everything to show off. They were spectacular displays, perfectly timed, and coordinated to music.

It was deffinately something I will never forget.
I think this is the convention I saw all those years ago - http://www.pgi.org/convention.aspx

I did not know a guild like that so organized even existed. Did you see everything that goes on during the week at that convention? I would be in heaven and make that week my vacation for the year. A lot of grrrrreAT things happening with Pyrotechnics Guild International. Not a lot of members but enough to make a terrific week long show and see what things have never been seen before. It looks like they are doing it in Wyoming this year. Thanks for putting that up, JollyGG- because I love it.

I really like the way the public is invited on the last night & the crowds really come out then.

I was looking at the video & slideshows. They really know how to paint the sky with many effects. I could not believe the firecracker table was about 10 tables long, 2 foot high & 3 feet wide. LOL! & then they are tossing these 12 inch mortars around like a tiny smoke bomb. I also enjoyed the pics of them building the wood racks. It makes a lot of people smile.

I also loved the competiton section where people make their own and try to win. One guy had a homemade rocket that was about 10 feet tall and a 12" mortar on the end of it. Kind of hard to picture a two by four blasting straight up into the air.

Another one I would like to see someday is the bridge in Louisvile KY around the 4th or be there during Thunder Festival for the Kentucky Derby. That is one of the best shows in the USA.
