My husband turned 50 this year and joined AARP. I just called for an insurance quote and WOW! We would save $939 a yr by going with them. That is an amazing savings.

ThanksIt's not what we have in our lives, but who we have in our lives and the quality of those relationships.

I don't know whether or not you have filed BK or what your credit score is. Is that quote before your credit rating was checked by the insurance company providing the insurance? Some states still allow insurance companies to up their rates on people with BK on their credit reports or having low credit scores. While AARP offers discounted rates to members on their insurance, it probably won't do much if you have BK or bad credit on your CRAs. Most insurance companies do "profiling" and will maybe quote you something low before checking credit ratings but get back later stating the higher rate due to what the state allows them to do. Our state recently eliminated credit profiling by insurance companies.
The best thing to do if you are in BK or have bad credit and your state allows profiling by insurance companies to occur, it's best to stay with whatever insurance company you have at the moment, especially if you have been with them a long time, and just lay low and hope your rates don't rise that much. If you get dropped or try to change insurance companies, you probably will not get the big money change like the OP received.

I'm not sure if they did a credit check. I just got that quote yesterday but we didn't change insurances yet because we don't have all the paperwork here with us.
This is the first month I haven't paid my cc's so my credit is on the way down. However, my husband is not filing bk and his credit is excellent.
We plan on changing this week so I'll post back on the credit front.Filed Chapter 7 Pro-Se May 29, 2008
