I don't mean to be such a downer but I'm not counting on the money until I know for certain that it is passed.
Oh I think it will pass but am not getting all loopy about it. Anything could happen. I only got 300 dollars the last time anyway, not enough to make a difference in my life and I spent it on bills.

In any case, I am much more excited about filing BK and getting out of debt....if I get a little extra to help with that, sobeit. I will have that new bed and air conditioner one way or the other!

It is refreshing to here someone speak what I feel. YOur point of view is pretty spot on. One thing for sure the tax rebate will not be shot down at election time, if the deal does not make a pass in the senate they will aprove the house version. My only question is if it will make it to us people in ch13 or will our trustee get a bonus this summer.

Last time I got a rebate it was an advance for the next years taxes, and I ended up owing money to the government the next year.

As far as the Illegals. If they pay taxes and SSI and what all else, then they should get the same benefits as the legal people here get. Its about money, not about country of origin or whether we are no longer letting people through the borders as we have for a hundred years. They put their lives on the line to get here. Most of "us" are born here. Its a question of "Choice."

IRS require Social Security Numbers for all tax payers. Illegals don't have SSN# to stay & work & pay tax. Their midle man/boss pay them cash only but take out from their payments for their workcomp $$ for other personal benefits or insurance purposes only, and tell them that they have required to be taxed by uncle SAM. Then, the foolest illegals try to make up & told their tax stories to the news paper, then the MOST foolish news people get it publish as left-wing propaganda against government!

hate the news, not the govt.
          This raises an interesting issue.
I happen to know several illegal aliens and I know that many of them work in places like McDonald's and In N Out Burgers, Taco Bell, and so on - major corporations. One is even an Assistant Manager at Carls Jr..

So how do these companies manage to pay them without breaking the law? And if they are breaking the law, how do they get away with it? I mean, it would be quite simple to prove the illegals they hire do not have papers.

Then, further more, some of these illegals do have credit cards. How does one get credit cards without having a legal social security card?

One even went out and bought a 2 year old truck for around $15k - more than I could afford! I'm sure they are paying outrageous interest. But how do they get credit at all when they have no legal social security # and are here illegally?

I disagree. I think if one is here illegally they should enjoy no benefits of our system. They already get free health care, free handouts, free education, etc.. Why should the government pay them a rebate when they are here illegally? If they want the benefits of government then they should apply legally for a legal residency.

Many do NOT pay taxes. They work for cash and send a lot of that cash back to their home countries via wire services. They live cheaply, 5 to a one bedroom apt., and send a lot of the money back to their families and spend very little here. Some save money here and then take all the money they saved back to their country to start a small business there.

I know this because my wife is a LEGAL immigrant and she knows many illegals. She and I have sympathy for her friends, yet we also think this is not fair to U.S. Citizens and does not benefit out country. Yeah, we pay cheaper prices for some things, but we pay higher prices for insurance, medical care, etc. etc. because we are paying for all the freebies the illegals get, one way or another.

As far as the "major corporations" hiring illegals, well they love it. Nearest thing to slave labor they can manage after the Civil War.

The companies have no incentive to prove their employees are illegal. So they withhold taxes with a stolen or phony SS#? All the IRS can do is send the company a letter stating the SS# and name is not a match, and please check the SS# again. That is the entire teeth of the IRS - an information letter to the employer. The employer is free to ignore the letter, and many do just that. If the employee uses an ITIN# in place of a SS#, then there is no problem at all with the IRS.

There was one report of a woman with last name Gonzales who applied for a job at a Target store. She happened to be a citizen of the USA. Her application was rejected. The reason? Target said she already worked there. In fact there were 35 other Target employees who also shared the same SS# as hers. How they got hired is a good question - perhaps the hiring supervisor was named Gonzales too.

Yeah, sorry, I did see that post of your's about the ITIN# after I posted my post.

I don't know. It all seems crazy to me. You've got major corporations hiring illegal aliens and illegal aliens getting free hospitalization, free medical and so on. Some say this is good for our country. I don't know for sure whether it is or not. All I know is, it's ILLEGAL. So why are the laws not enforced? I can't go to Mexico or most other countries and work (and honestly, I would like to go somewhere else and work for at least a while!)

Meanwhile, the border between California and Mexico is so undefended, any terrorist from any other country could carry in bombs etc. over the border there, no problem.

I just don't get it. Except, like you say, the corporations and small businesses too, love the cheap labor. But who pays for that cheap labor, really? I mean, the consequences are complex, economically. They use free services here, ship back a lot of money out of our economy into other Latin countries where they come from, and unfortunately some also contribute to our crime stats in big cities where there are gangs in place.
