Dumb ? about fruit (produce kind)

Sorry in advance for the dumb question....

My son has a new found love of oranges. I absolutely HATE peeling them for him, but he's too young to do it. I have VERY short nails and put fake nails on them. When I peel the fruit, I always get the peel stuck under my fake nails and it irritates me. Is there any way that I can peel the orange (without pulling the "slices" apart) and refrigerate them? How long would they still be good for?

I know wearing gloves are an option, but would prefer not to.

    Maybe these will help?

All About Oranges Article - Orange Preparation | Freezing Oranges | Orange Recipes | Tips Oranges A baseball-sized citrus fruit that generally has an orange skin and flesh that is a segmented ball of pulp and juice wrapped in a thin semi-transparent membrane.

I used to wear fake nails too, and I'd suggest wearing gloves when dealing with any type of liquid. It's easy to get a fungus under the fake nail.

Florida style, hit the soft spot with your thumb and peel!! I eat three or four a day (well, including tangerines, depends on which is on sale!).

          Can you explain this better?

I start peeling the orange by using the tip of the spoon. Once it's started it's not that hard to peel the rest. Or I just scoot the spoon around between the orange and the skin to get the rest of it peeled.

There are certain varieties of oranges that are easier to peel than others. Sorry I can't help you though on which is which.

Since I hate to peel apples, I found this contraption at ROSS that is a corer. Look for it in the kitchen section. You just put it on top of the apple & it takes the core out as well as slices the apple into wedges. It should work for oranges as well.

I would think this is the easiest way to peel fruit with no fear of breaking a real or fake nail!
