I just cut out regular meat and dairy, oils (unless in the recipe), and sweets. After that, you can eat like a pig and never get your daily dietary requirements for calories. Strangely enough this makes food "boring," and I am not interested in food as much. Oh the best way to speed up your metabolism is to turn the thermostat down, and in the summer, don't turn on the central air. You actually burn off huge amounts of calories keeping warm or cool. Eating things that are hard to digest (raw carrots etc.) also burns up calories.

        First week: Down 6.5 lbs

I am sure all water weight, but don't feel bloated anymore and clothes feel a little looser.

I'm down about 5lbs so far. 8lbs from the beginning of december.

I've been tracking my food at sparkpeople.com.

I need to exercise more. But my body is simply stiff and hurts all the time.

Oh! I saved up my pennies and have purchased some Landrollers so I can go rollerskating again. I HATE walking. It's so BORING.

Okay it has been two months since this thread started. Who stuck with it? Who has had successes?

I'm down 23 lbs total. I joined sparkpeople after chpxiii recomended it here and am enjoying it. I want to hit my first goal by my brothers wedding March 21. I have 5 lbs to go to get there and three weeks to do it (three weeks since last day I weighed myslef). If I make it I will have lost 28lbs. Too bad I'll still have 45 to go. But I feel like for the most part I'm staying on track.

            How is everyone else doing?

JollyGG, I uhm.. *koff* I have stopped putting my food into Spark people. I do still exercise.

I have always had problems trying to lose weight. That's why I have originally had to have weight loss surgery. Over the course of the two months, I lost 8lbs.

              Eight.

              8 f'ing pounds.

I was keeping under my caloric intake AND exercising.

So I gave up again. I admit it.

But I'm still exercising. I'm rollerskating. I absolutely love it. I bought me a new pair of Landrollers and I take them out as often as I can. I'll be going tonight too!

But as for losing weight. Frankly, I give up. I just *can't* do it.

Ok. I'm going to start back up on Sparkpeople again. Atleast watching my food.

That's one lb a week. Over the course of a year that is 52 lbs. Sounds like you are doing just fine. Mabey slower than you hoped. But, hey, progress is progress.

                    You know what, you're right.

And you're right that it is slower than I hoped.

I came back to say that you've inspired me to get back on track with my eating. Thank you!

I come from a place where they call it a Soda, and now I live in a place where they call it Pop. I don't drink a lot of it. I like Beer better.

My wife and I both need to lose about 25lb which doesn't seem like that much but DANG! I started exercising more in January (NY Resolution, and I'm sticking to it!) BUT, that hasn't helped me one bit! I can't believe it! I thought the weight would start coming off, but instead I've actually gained some.

Meanwhile, I'm vegetarian and my wife is mostly vegetarian! We don't drink regular milk, (except in coffee), we eat no or little meat (none for me), we eat only low fat cheese, low fat everything...

But it's unbelievable. It's like, we just reached this age and suddenly it's:
[POOF!] "You will be fat now!" (I was always one of those people who was thin no matter what I ate, all my life until just a few years ago.)

Anyway, we haven't tried this yet but I bought and read this book which has gotten excellent reviews by doctors and experts, as it's not a "fad diet" but a lifestyle diet. Actually I"m pretty motivated to try it but can't get my wife to go along with me and I know it will be difficult to do unless we both do it.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, check it out here:

Available at amazon from $6, used.

I believe I will eventually convince my wife to go on this diet with me. It has a lot of good sounding recipes and it makes total sense. We really need to do it. I don't like being overweight.

My Dr. was pressuring me to get the surgery, but I was too scared to do it because of the problems a lot of people were having. I ended up joining Weight Watchers in Nov. 2006 and Curves in Dec. 2006. I had 175 pounds to lose. WW is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I have been going for 65 weeks and I have lost 93 pounds. I feel 20 years younger and I've gotten my life back even though I still have 82 pounds to go. It's definitely something I know I can do for the rest of my life and at this point I crave healthy foods and exercise. Of course, I never would have been able to afford WW and Curves if we hadn't filed for Bankruptcy in 2005.

Congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment! I know how hard it is to even lose 25 lb.! You should be quite proud of yourself!

I started this thread. I was doing really well. Then I got a really bad flu and this all went to pot.:-(.

I need to start again because it was working and I was feeling really good.
