The worst divorce lawyer in history

I have the absolute worst lawyer known to mankind. She talked a very good game at the initial consultation, but I can't seem to get her to call me back for any reason. I've left her so many messages, her secretary sounds like she feels sorry for me now.

I don't know if she is just extremely busy or what, but I've tried calls, leaving messages and emails. I live in a state where you have to wait 180 days before you file, the 180 is up this week and I want this over with so that I can focus on the BK, but this *@#$% is making life stressful just by ignoring me.

She didn't ignore the money I paid to retain her and I don't know if it's just me wanting to seriously get rid of my deadbeat ex or her non-challant attitude about communicating with me, but I am about to scream out loud.

I just pray to the heavens that my BK lawyer doesn't give me this much grief because I can't take it. My potential BK atty costs a bit much, but even before I gave him a penny he has responed to my emails within a day and I've called him a few times and he was nothing but nice. I hope he doesn't do a Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde on me.

I guess I will try to stay calm and just call back and schedule an appt. with her (which also pisses me off since she charges up the wazoo for every little thing). Seeing that I still have quite a bit of retainer left, I'm sure she wants to milk it for all its worth and doesn't want to refund a dime. I was looking forward to using part of that money to retain my BK lawyer. This Scumbag lawyer sucks!!!!!

(Sorry to rant, I'm sitting at work waiting for the return phone call that won't come and I'm just mad!!!!!!)

Anyone else have this happen with lawyers or is it just mine. (Yeah right)

I would leave a messsage that you are concerned about her unresponsiveness and that if you don't get a call back in 24 hours, you will be writing to the bar.

Ditto, and as someone else here said, specifically use the words "You are abandoning me". State bars do not look kindly upon abandonment of a client.

If you read over the following thread, it discusses the exact same scenario that you are describing, and the last post has the link to state bar disciplinary contacts. It would be good to check that out and know exactly how you go about making a disciplinary complaint *before* you call, so that she knows you're not just blowing smoke at her but are absolutely able and ready to do so. Good luck!!!

Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!
