    Ice cream for reindeer

When I was a kid we left ice cream out for Santa's reindeer. I can't remember if this was instead of cookies for Santa or addition to the cookies.
Supposedly this tradition came about because of a christmas record we had that had a story or a song that said that one of the reindeer (don't remember which one) loves icecream.

Has anyone else ever heard of this? Does anyone know where I might get my hands on this song or story? I've been googling with no luck.

Sorry, no luck on ice cream

I help out at the local library in the children's section and we were putting out a display of the seasonal books. Several of the librarians thought it might be from a picture book like Golden books a few years back, but no one could find it there. Try asking at your library or in kid's section of bookstore, might find something there.

We would watch my Dad hang a carrot for Rudolph on a low hanging branch by the picnic table out back, and sure enough, next morning there would be a bite out of the carrot and hoofprints in the snow on top of table...or if rainy a muddy print...

        Nice memories.

Actually, I'm from the midwest. It seems like such a strange tradition and I don't even remember the story it is supposedly from. Thanks for all who took a shot at it.

Anyone else have strange or original christmas traditions?

            Reindeer Food

My granddaughter came home from pre-school with Reindeer food for us to sprinkle on the lawn. It is oatmeal with red glitter mixed in with the following note attached:

On Christmas Eve, sprinkle this Magic Reindeer Food on your lawn. The Magic glitter sparkling in the moonlight and the smell of oats will guide Rudolph to your home.
I used to have a life, now I have grandkids.
