    The good old Biblical Cyst

Anyone ever gotten a ganglian cyst on the top of their foot...and had it lanced or removed?

Ok...I had a foot injury on Halloween & it turned into this bump on top of my left foot....I had it x-rayed Friday, while off from work, not sprained, fractured or hairlined out...(5" heels on Halloween & tripped) so I wasn't sure whether to let it just sit for awhile, or get it zapped after New Years...

Trying to do some PT work with Macy's during the month of December and didn't want to compound the injury with surgery till after that's over, if I get hired.

    Help!

I had one on my wrist. Uncle hit it hard with a bible (biblical cure). It hurt alot, I cussed alot, and the cyst remained.
I got it drained (dr. stuck a needle in it and sucked everything out). It hurt alot and it came back.
Then I had is surgically removed. It's gone for good but I have an 1 1/2 inch scar on my wrist.
However, before I had it removed it hurt whenever I bumped it on anything so I'm glad I got it done.

My Sis had a ganglion cyst on her wrist. For years. She did the "Biblical Cure" a couple of times, but the cyst came back each time.

Eventually, the cyst grew quite large. Sis started having trouble with her grip in that hand. Had tingling and experienced some loss of feeling in 2 or 3 fingers. She finally went to the Doctor with it. She'd waited way too long.

When the Doctor performed surgery, he said the cyst had started creeping down into her hand. It was pressing on blood vessels and nerves. What should have been a minor 1 hour surgery turned into a 4 hour resection. Sis still has trouble with that hand.

DD developed ganglion cysts on the top of one of her feet from swimming. During practice, they'd wear fins to strengthen their leg muscles for kicking. The fins caused 2 cysts to pop up on the top of DD's left foot.

After swim season was over, we had them removed. Surgery went fine but recovery was heck. The Doctor used skin glue instead of stitches. Banaged her foot. Told us to come back to the office for a check up in 10 days.

Turns out DD is allergic to adhesives. When the Doctor removed the bandage during the check-up, he found 2 very infected, gaping skin wounds. Fortunately the stitching down inside the foot had held and healed.

It took antibiotics and weeks to get DD's foot healed up. She has 2 rather nasty looking scars on the top of that foot. AND, there was nerve damage as well. DD has next to no feeling on the top of that foot.

Everything you ever wanted to know about ganglion cysts, their causes, and treatments -

A ganglion cyst is a swelling or tumor on a joint or tendon sheath. Ganglion cysts form on the elbow, knee, foot, shoulder, wrist, toe, or finger. Read about treatment (surgery) and symptoms.

I think I'll go for aspiration after the new year. It's not bothering me, except when I look at it & it freaks me out. Yuk.
