It must have been hacked. The people at paypal said I must have fallen victim to one of the spoof emails but I know that not it. I'm not stupid when it comes to computers and never open any of those emails let alone click on one of the links. The only thing I can think of is someone must have got my email address and my password. I won't be using paypal anymore. I'll be really leary about using my debt card for anything online for a long time...

That totally sucks, sorry to hear your trouble. I think I will close down my just opened Paypal account again. The only benefit I see is when I do buy stuff off the internet Paypal is sopposedly secure and it makes it easier to buy things when a merchant is selling stuff and Paypal is one of their ways of accepting payments. But since it looks like you been hacked, now IM SCARED!

When I filed Bk last year, BEFORE I filed I made sure to grab as many statements from all my accounts and take off all my linked credit cards to such businesses as ebay/paypal etc. Because I knew somewhere down the road I would be blocked from ever having access again. Filers be weary of this!

Is there any chance at all that your ebay or email password was the same for both email/ebay AND PayPal?

Sometimes that can be all it takes, you don't even have to click one of those spoof emails.....

Use a different email address, credit card, and bank account for PayPal than with anything else that you use and you should be ok!

Actually my password was the same for paypal and ebay but different on my email accounts. I just went on ebay and changed my password just in case. It's so hard to keep track of so many passwords but I guess it's very necessary.

              That's what it is then.
Someone hacked into your ebay account, and assumed (correctly!) that your PayPal password was the same.

              I am sooooo sorry!!!

              It sucks.

I was an Ebay seller for 6ish years. I always accepted PayPal, and I had a couple issues where they temporarily took money out of my account while doing an investigation (buyer claimed they didn't authorize charge, etc.).

Hopefully it will work as quickly for you as it did for me. I had the money back in a week, maybe two.

                Good luck.

I blame ebay for this one.
They are the most easily and most often hacked website on the Internet, and their security absolutely sucks. It's terrible.

I will never use ebay ever again.

Exactly. That is also how I have it done since the beginning.

I finally created a cheatsheet for passwords, 3 columns, website name, logon, and password. I keep this at home, not in an office setting. It's saved me more than once.

I got my money back today. Yay!! I changed my password for paypal so it's not the same as my ebay account. I still think I'm going to cancel once my transfer into my bank account is complete. I'm at the very least going to take my bank account information out of there.
