Water Shortages

Well folks, our state (Ky) among many are suffering with a "water shortage" right now. Our district is under Court order to conserve and cut back 20% each household. If your caught washing cars, watering yards, etc.... the sheriff will visit your house and your water will be turned off.

The river that our water supply comes from has almost gone dry.... we are having to pump it over the dam everyday right now to keep customers supplied. No substantial rain in months has really taken it's toll on water supplies in our area.

What most folks don't understand is even though there are LOTS OF LAKE in our area, our water district is not tapped into them yet and all our water comes from a river...... When the river goes dry - there is no water available.....

We have NEVER experienced this problem before and are taking emergency measures trying to get lines run to a lake (this involves court orders, right of ways, laying of lines, etc)

Can a water district ration water? Yes, they can...... they can turn it off on your street today and leave it off as long as they need too and ration it out hourly, daily, oras they need too.

Even though there is a "severe water shortage" - we catch people washing cars, watering yards, filling swimming pools..... HOW STUPID IS THAT.............

WHEN THE CHOICE IS "DRINKING WATER OR CAR WASHING WATER" - WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE.

God never said we'd have all the water we ever needed, nor access too it. South Africa doesn't..........what makes us any different.

But you would think people would be more conservative, be aware they may not have water to drink (even in our society).

I saw on the news last night - Atlanta (pop 3.5 million) is running out of water!!!! Drinking water!!!!

If there is no rain soon............lot of places will be under severe water shortages like KY is right now...

I know first hand about the situtation here in KY...... I work for a county water district...... our next phase is rationing that may start sometime this week or next if we have no rain.

PLEASE FOLKS, if your in a draught area, please conserve water!!!
DON'T BE WASTEFULL.....................
IT'S SO VERY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW............especially if people want water to drink.....

We rea in GA they said that we will have no water in 2.5 to 3 months if we dont get a flood of rain asap we draw from lake lanier and it is just about empty we get city water which comes from the lake and some of the pipes in the lake that take water from the lake are above water and are now useless and some boats are stuck in the lake with no water under and no way of getting them out.

Yes, I saw your situation there on TV also..... they showed a pic of Lake Lanier - very low, almost dry even.......

Yep when the pipes are above the water level, they can't pump the water out........ bad situtation.

Right now we have generators running at the river, pumping every drop out we can.

Bad situation all the way around. Hope most folks realize this!!!

Of course you can still buy bottled water to drink..........but down the line you may not have any to wash clothes, bath, etc.....

Sounds ironic - but could very well be fact.........

It's been drier than normal here. The river, streams, and ponds are way down. But we're not into a shortage situation yet. We've had a little bit of rain here and there to keep the situation from being as dire as other parts of the country.

I saw in the news, one town in GA has a reserve pond they aren't even touching for drinking water for the town. They're saving it for emergency situations like fires and such. No grass watering. No car washing. Public laundromats and car washes have had to close.

There was a story about a golf course in GA. How their grass is all green while everything around them is brown. It was a research project that has worked out. Waste water from homes is treated to clean it up, but the water is not potable/drinkable. It's pumped to the golf course to be used for watering the greens and tees. They're also using that water to wash the golf carts and such. 1 MILLION gallons a day!!!

According to the Weather Channel,.............. We all have rain coming. All thru the Nation's mid section over the next couple of days.

They're predicting rain with possibly damaging hail here tomorrow.

Was just outside for a breath of fresh air and I see BLACK CLOUDS - I did a rain dance while I was out there...............
Hopefully we will get a little rain tonight...... and if local counties get some too the river will start rising from the run-off.....
Supposed to get some rain tomorrow 70% chance - I hope it comes a "gully washer" for our sake......
I might even go play in the rain if it does................

Oh please please please take our rain. I haven't seen the sun in a week.

I'm in the upper midwest. My uncle, a farmer, is trying to get the harvest in so he can join his wife who just moved out to Alabama. However, he hasn't been able to work in a week.

I live in Tennessee and it's been the dryest on record. We need rain bad.
