    I wonder....

if bk will negatively affect my ability to obtain student loans in the future? Anyone know?

I so hate my job. I always have. I've only done it because it was the only way I could pay my bills. I've been seriously considering to make the big move to higher education - law school. It would be hard financially but my husband could support us. I've gotta try to do something different with my work life or I'm apt to go crazy.

It will NOT affect your ability to get Stafford loans. They do not check your credit for Staffords. I was actually in law school when I filed for Ch. 7 back in 2000. It will affect private loans. However, I was able to get a BAR study loan for $10k with my parents co-signing (that was in 2003). Good luck!

I am all for higher education. I have a b.s. in computer science. And even though I have filed chapter 13 due to not being able to find work after the "internet bubble burst' (I am a programmer) I can honestly say it was because of my degree that it has helped me to improve my lot in life. I, nor my family, "know" People and so I had to do something or stay poor my whole life.

      I say GO FOR IT!

I have a computer science degree and am a programmer, too!

I know what you mean about the internet bubble burst. I got my degree in 2001 and ended up joining the military because I couldn't find a job without actual on the job experience. It was tough for a while.

That is the same year my husband graduated with his computer science degree. He was unemployed for six months and then had to take a phone support job so we could get by. He couldn't be happier to be out of support and into programming now.

Glad he's back into programming. Us programmers love what we do. It was so disappointing hear about companies offering sign-on bonuses in 2000 to not being able to get an interview when I graduated in 2001.

Sign on bonuses in 2000???? Last I heard of that was in 1999! I am so grateful for the job I have. when I got laid off in 2001 it has taken me FIVE YEARS just to "catch up" back to where I was when I got laid off. Oi. It has been a journey.
