How much Milk do you buy a week?

The thread about electric bills got me thinking so I was just curious. How much milk does everyone go through a week? I'm starting to think my family is abnormal milk drinkers. There are 4 milk drinkers in the family (I do not drink milk at all). And we go through 6 gallons a week. At 4.00/gal we are spending $24/week on milk......that's almost $100/month on milk alone!!!! Is that outrageous or what??? I would love to hear if anyone else spends this much on milk. When things have been tight I've actually even watered it down a bit.....but makes me feel guilty that I'm watering down my babies milk.

We go through 3 to 5 gallons a week.

We have me, my husband, a four year old, and a one year old. We go through 2 gallons of 2% a week for the adults and the four year old, we go through 1-2 gallons a week for the 1 year old. But I think that is just mostly the kids drinking it. When I start drinking milk more regularly (like I should) I notice we go through more.

When things have been tight I've actually even watered it down a bit.....but makes me feel guilty that I'm watering down my babies milk.

It's sad with the price of milk we have really tried to start having the kids drink more water or even juice instead of milk. For example we now give them water with meals. At bedtime the baby will finish off her milk and instead of giving her another one we try to give her water.
I hate to do it since they are both growing kids and the four year old could use a few more pounds. But milk is expensive.

My 3 boys (6,8,14) loooove milk! I've managed to get it down to a gallon/ week in the summer (no school) and about a 1/2 gallon in the winter. I noticed that when I did dishes there was always a lot if milk left in the cereal bowls or bits left glasses. Now I pour them a little at a time and we waste a lot less. We don't drink juice or pop (do I EVER miss diet pepsi ). I give them cheese almost every day as an after-school snack to get that extra calcium in.

Not big milk drinkers here.... but when I was pregnant I CRAVED it. I would go thru (by myself) a gallon a day. Thank goodness I'm still not pregnant, huh.

Now, we go thru a half gallon a week. Nobobdy in my family drinks milk, we just use it when cooking.

Cheese is another thing! What we don't spend on milk, we make up in cheese. Sad, I know. LOL

I can't drink milk - allergic - thank goodness............couldn't afford it anyways. But I did have roommate that drank a gallon a day.........

She spent a fortune on milk, cigs, and BUD Light........ each week.

Is there a shortage of cows or what???? Just another one of those commodities that THEY KNOW PEOPLE USE and raise the price on it.... Just like gasoline..........

My way of thinking $5.99 for a lb of cheese is a lot of dough for cheese....

Just think what all this stuff will go up too if there is a wage increase??????

My family is me and my son and we both drink milk with meals....him more than me though. I would say we use two gallons a week.

We drink 1% milk.

I had to set a limit of three gallons a week. With NFC Orange Juice at 7 bucks a gallon I try and limit that to one half gallon a week. The problem is my middle son, he thinks everything is Sunny D cheap or has no concept. Cold, filtered water comes from the fridge and kids still drink Milk on a hot day.

Um... I've noticed that milk is cheaper in the gas stations than at most of the grocery stores. Is this a local thing?? I just find it odd.

Some of our gas stations run a once a week special on milk that is almost a dollar cheaper. We try to remember to stop on that day and get it there.
Sunshine grocery store also has one day a week it is cheaper. I think Monday.

My son's weakness is apple juice. If we let him he would go through gallons a week and never eat (could be part of why he is so skinny). We have a rule in our house that for every glass of apple juice he has he has to have one glass of water and one glass of milk. That's the only way to make sure he drinks water.

I used to buy 5 gallons a week when the 3 kids were home. Now, I buy a quart a month and it goes bad before I use it.

I would give anything to go back to buying 5 gallons a week.

A little trick to extend the milk. Buy the large box of powdered milk. Instead of mixing it with only water, use half water and half milk.

Only one milk drinker

Only my 15 month old likes/drinks milk. We buy about one gallon of Vitamin D milk a week. It's up over $4 here. RIDICULOUS. But at least it's cheaper than formula. She also drinks 1/2 juice-1/2 water sometimes and we just buy juice on sale (cranberry, apple, any 100% juice).

We have 5 kids ages 9,8,5,3,and2 we go through 7 to 8 gallons per week 1 to 1 and1/4 a day. My pocket book is hurting just thinking about it. Yes the gas stations are cheaper. I do get wic so that gives me 5 gallons a month free every one after that is expensive. It is 3.99 to 5.29 out here

We rarely buy milk. Neither DH or me drinks it (yuck), although we might put it in cereal 2-3 times a year. Most of the time, even a quart of regular milk will go bad before we can use it.

When I need milk for cooking, I just use powdered milk.

We do eat a lot of cheese, though, and I take vitamins with calcium.
