Military service for bad credit folks......

Several months ago there was an article in the paper that the military is not accepting people who have bad credit or are on the verge of filing bankruptcy. Their reasoning - people with bad credit are "security risks".
My personal opinion: The banks/creditors don't want people with bad credit sent into war zones - dead people do not pay bills.

There was a segment the other night on Nightly News that for the last 3 months the Army had not met it recruiting goals........ thus meaning not many new recruites. The Army has even lowered their standards in the last year trying to get new recruites.

Our armed forces are basically now a "volunteer force"...... not like it was years ago when there was the "draft".

Our armed forces now choose military life for the education, benefits, medical, and the exciting lifestyle.... even though their jobs can be dangerous and their lives on the line.

I personally don't feel that these companies should be too concerned about a soldier not paying his bills... they should be more concerned about these soldiers still having the desire to defend this country for them.... and they need to be supporting these soldiers who are willing to die for their freedoms!!

          LOL!
I hang out on another bk board and last year, a career Navy man was worried about an impending bk affecting his security clearence. He consulted with a lawyer who handles clearence issues and was told to inform his chain of command in writing he moment he filed.
Well, he did and his CO called him in for a chat. The CO just asked for an explanation-a family of 5 stationed in some high cost of living areas and financing a lifestyle on cc's. Our poster said the CO just smiled and said. "if you think a little BK will keep you from going to Bahrain-think again"!

well in the air force when you file bk your security clearance is taken away even if you can prove you are not a risk. my hubby was just retired due to no clearance to do his job. which he needed for his career field

Well, unfortunately, nobody said Uncle Sam had "any sense"......some of the decisions they make are on the border line of being "stupid" and/or bad judgment on their part. Many of our "politicians and "leaders" are not squeaky clean..... a new "dirty one" pops up everyday in the news. And they have "security clearances"????? Something wrong with the scenerio!!!

Besides most of them don't have to claim BK because they live off the fat of the land - out of our pocketbooks, while we are filing BK to try to solve problems that "many of their decisions" have created for us......

Most politicians do not work for "John Q public", they work for the special interest groups (oil companies, medical/pharmacitical, banks, CC companies). The "perks" they receive from all this more than keeps them out of bankrutpcy..... would me too!!

Personally, I think our politicians make it very hard for a military family to survive these days..... and when one is injured in war, its our responsibilty to see that he is "taken care of".... no matter what it cost.

Our soldiers "give up a lot" when they go to war on our behalf...... many are injured, some even give up their lives!!

              Just my opinion,

Very true Minny!! Once a veteran returns from combat, and is disabled. Theyget caught up in beauracratic red-tape, and never recieved the resources, monies, and assistance they desperately need! Additionally, the logic that the military uses about having bad credit and having any sort of security clearance is interesting. It's actually pretty similiar to the logic behind having bad credit and working in the finance/accounting industry. But for the most part, the military won't care if you've filed for BK 100 times---you'll still be fit to deploy for combat!!!

Military is afraid that Al Queda or terrorists give money to soldiers to defect or let them pass da bomb through the security gates, or worst yet... give them passes to buy weapons, ammunitions, etc.. You guess it all scenarios...

There were news before about three soldiers (after assignment completed in Iraq), go home open web site, advertise their military stolen items (clothes, uniforms, hats, shoes, even bullets, etc.) to web users and Ebay auctions.. what do they gain !?.. hundreds of thousands to profit & pay their own debts... and a discharge, fines and a couple years in prison later of course...

Now, that one reason why they run credit report back ground checks now on every military personnel.
