    Car insurance savings!

I just wanted share with you folks that I was able to get a really great deal through AIG for my auto insurance.

Two weeks ago, I had responded to a letter saying how as a member of such and such I'd be entitled to all these great discounts. I called them up wasted about 20 minutes of my time to learn that the company would be $800 more than what I'm paying now a year.

Throughout the years I've shopped around and did other online quotes and they were always $800 or more than what I was paying. So I stayed with my company for almost 8 years now.

But recently, I signed onto the AIG. And I was shocked when the online quote came back about $600 CHEAPER than what I've been paying!

It wasn't completely apples to apples as I made a mistake in one of my deductibles. But I'm not even worried about it. I have every confidence that even after I make the change, it'll still be way cheaper than what I'm currently paying.

So I just wanted to share with you guys that maybe you can get as good a deal as I did. After I signed on with them, I realized that my life insurance policy is through AIG as well

    Good luck!

Sorry, read my numerous posts on AIG, if they are available. I think you are a Florida member. If you get six month policies wait 'til the end of the term with AIG and then see if they hammer you. My experience 10 years, one claim for $294.00 from the guy I hit, my check for $600.00 I returned "declined", my rates dropped for six months after that, then i was hammered with huge increases every six months basically in so many words, "because you BK'd you lack any integrity". In other words I am bloody likely to file a frivolous claim. NO TICKETS ON RECORD, NO OTHER CLAIM ANYWHERE yet getting 20-40% increase every six months. You may be in another State which means they may write one year deals, no one does here, other factors may affect your rates.

I reaaly hope that you have better experience but GIECO has been WAYYYY cheaper for me than AIG and my rates heve been constant.

Thanks for the input. I guess I can always switch again later. My current auto insurance has slowly upped my rates and I was accident and ticket free for over 12 years.

I have had great luck with Geico. I live in Oregon and the only time an innsurance company can run your credit is upon their initial offer. Geico never even bothered to check my credit. They have never increased my premium, but have decreased it twice after I reminded them that my car was lsoing its replacement value over the years. I think it helped to not have any accidents or tickets over the past 13 years. This may be the reason they never bothered with the their one-time shot at a credit report. I'm guessing if I applied to AIG or others they WOULD pull my credit report and they would be far more expensive then my current Geico policy. However, different state have diiferent laws with respect to how and when auto insurers can obtain and use your credit rating. As always, know your state laws before your apply.

AIG pulled my credit report. It wouldn't give me a quote without my SS number. So we'll see. I hope to build good rapport with that company.

Please pardon the poor use of words but when it comes to getting p****d on by Insurance companies us Floridians are "top 'o the heap". I wish you the best, i feel your pain.

              Just a plug for GEICO!

I moved to Long Island, NY from Cedar Rapids, IA 2-years ago. I was with Allstate for 10-years. Allstate quoted me $2K for a 6-mo policy in NY. I called GEICO to see what they could offer and it was $1100. Today, with GEICO, I pay $890 for a 6-month policy. GEICO has been so awesome! I can't say enough about them.

I am moving to WA state next month. I called GEICO to tell them, and they gave me a courtesy quote to see what my new 6-month policy is going to cost. Great customer service...I have never been in an accident with them though.

I'm with 21st Centruy in California. My Ford Fusion insurance is 431 for six months. It was just raised this term because of a reckless driving.

I JUST switched yesterday to Geico. I was with Farmer's ins, with ONE agent for nearly 10 years. I had asked them many many times over the course of the last several years to see if they could lower my rate. No go.

I had tried a year ago and all insurance quotes I got were for MORE THAN what I was paying Farmer's. On a whim, I decided to try for an online quote from Geico. I was floored. Just a bit over $400 for 6 months. Farmer's was charging me well over $700 for six months. Monthly payments were just shy of $150. So, needless to say I switched to Geico. So I signed up with Geico yesterday. I had just moved and just so happened to have crossed a county line. So when I actually switched and bought the policy it was even less. Like, $380 some odd dollars. For 6 months. The. Exact. Same. Coverage.

So. Get this. When I called today to cancel my insurance agent started saying, "Well, they don't have agents." My thought was, "Weeeelll... having had YOU as an agent I've played phone tag numerous times. With Geico, I atleast got a representative." Ididn't say anything.

Then she asked why. I said, literally, "You remember all those times I've asked over the years if you could get my rates lowered? Well, Geico did. I'll be saving 800 bucks a year." I didn't even apologize. I've been with that agent for nearly TEN YEARS and they could quote/unquote NEVER lower my rate. When I said that, she was like, all of a sudden, "Well, I think they have new discounts ... let me just look and then you can decide."

Ugh. They're nice people and all but please, quit trying to yank my chain here. I've asked NUMEROUS over the years. And now all of a sudden she can try and get me discounts?

I simply responded, "Well, I have already decided. I went ahead and purchased a policy with Geico. I won't be purchasing a policy with Farmer's." She got real cold with me after that. Whatever. I think that was the last straw. If I ever had to switch back, it wn't be with them. It was nearly TEN YEARS I had been with them. Almost a DECADE. And this is the treatment I get????

I called my insurance up today and told them I'd like to cancel because of my new policy starting next Monday. Ran through the standard "let me see what I can do for you"...I entertained them. They lowered the price by $50. I said "I'll pass".

Mostly I am disgruntled with my current insurance because in over 12 years, I've had no accidents and no tickets. Somebody hit me earlier this year. My car had all sorts of problems with it after that. In particular, the transmission wasn't shifting.

Instead of sending out a representative to even look at the car, they flat outright denied my claim saying my car has known technical issues. What kind of lame-o excuse is that?!

It's all about the profit dollar and what they can save. Inspite of me being a good driver and a good customer.

Well, forget that. There are just too many other insurance companies out there to get that kind of treatment.

So to the above poster, good for you for moving on!
