    Loss of Innocence

    My location says it all

My oldest DD drove right through the scene just a few mere minutes before this all began to unfold. She saw a man running amongst parked cars carrying an "enormous" rifle. We still don't know if it was the sniper.

My youngest DD didn't even want to go to school today. I am just numb.

We knew the officer who was killed. My husband works for the city and all city and county officials know each other. I was so astonished when the shootings happened in the Amish community and remember telling my girls that if something like that could happen in such a small community something like that could happen in Moscow, Idaho. Well it did.

    No where is safe.

Kam - my prayers are with you, your family, and your community.
There's not much else that can be said in a situation like this. Thank goodness your son was not hurt. How horrible for him to see that.

Kam, how horrible it is that such incomprehensible violence has thrust itself directly into your family. I'm so sorry for your losses and the loss of innocence for all the children in Moscow, your son included.

I remember how it rocked our kids' worlds when a classmate was killed in a car wreck. I can't imagine how much an event like this would have affected them.

Prayers for you and your family. And for all the victim's families. And your community. Small towns are so close knit. What affects one, affects all.

My son lives in Montana, so he wasn't directly affected by all of this. My girls, ages 19 and 13, live at home still. The oldest one was directly involved in this. I learned that she and her friend actually witnessed the shooter killing the police officer and shooting at the court house.

She does not want to go out at night now. We were just talking about what the consequences might have been had she been riding her scooter instead of driving our car.

One thing is for sure..... you don't have to "go looking for violence, create it, it will find you at times anyways!!! You don't have to "be doing anything" and it can pop-up......

There is so much "unreal crime", such as video games, movies, etc. that our young people do not realize "just how REAL violence is" UNTIL they see it up close and personal..

I'm sure the event your daughter witnessed will leave a lasting impression on her.... THIS IS A REAL WORLD with lots of violence in it, thou some may never be touched by it...

It is sad enough when someone feels like they have to "take their own life"...BUT when they want to take the lives of harmless others (who don't even know them) it is really, really sad......

Get your daughter to "talk about it"..... she doesn't need to keep her feelings bottled up.... she needs to express how she feels about it.... its healthier that she does.

Prayers for all those that have been touched by this senseless act...... their lives will never be the same...

A friend of mine is an officer and afew months ago his partner had to shoot a fellow with an assault rifle. He tried to save the guys life. The guy died in his care while waiting for help. He is going through a horrible depression and may lose his job, he told me that he never wants to face that again. He literally won't drag a comb through his hair, it is that bad.

Sorry for what happened, just awful.
