4Runner starter blew up last night....

....I still haven't received the word that the bk is over....and after work last night, the suv started & sounded like an airplane taking off...

My boss said turn it off...I did...and pulled the key & it was still taking off!

put key in & turned it off & it hasn't started yet...click click click....so

I'm putting int the cheapest starter I can but don't know if I"m able to trade the truck yet without having word that my bk is over as the notice to creditors about the sale of the suv to me for 3K went out lastmonth...not sure on end date?

That sucks Amis. Just out of curiousity, any idea how many threads you've started about your truck?

I'm crossing my fingers for you that it's just the starter. They are a common problem and pretty standard to replace.

      Hopefully it's no big deal.

Same thing happened to my GF's 8 yr old Camry - fortunately, she was just leaving the house for work. UNFORTUNATELY, I had just stepped into the shower... Knew what it was the second I heard it - the solenoid hung up. SHe turned it off, but it kept cranking, so I flew out into the garage in a towel. Had to disconnect the battery to stop it. SCARY sound - I'm tellin' ya.

Be prepared - Toyota starters are not cheap. Easy to replace, fortunately. Hopefully, you got her shut down in time to save the battery and the battery cable...

Before you buy a new one check for a rebuilt or the junk yard....... save a buck or two.....

the starter solenoid is shorted. best to pull the batt cable but I guess that is a moot point tonite.

            try Discount or Advance

Advance lists a Duralast (crappy but good in a pinch) for $110.00 plus $60.00 for the core. that is for the 6 cyl. i used 1999.

4 cyl. same year is $135.00 all assuming an Auto. Trans,

not bad, remember if it says starters 24.99 and up that is always for Chevy's and GM cars. 120.00 average isn't bad

I have used Duralst over the years, they last awhile, not to bad. For the price, BETTER than Dealer! LIFETIME WARRANTY, believe me I used that on my Buick Century and Corsica Alternators!!!!!!!!!

Depends on how hard they were beating the Chinese prisoners that day!

It is easy to install if your manservant is at all handy. Remember to keep the battery disconnected while installing.

Got it towed last night to my mechanic and will hear something soon...definitely going the rebuilt way!

My loaner is a '99 Mustang...it is so weird to get out of the car so low...but this is one of my choices on a trade in or an eclipse...
